We now know when The Conjuring 4 will come out. Warner Bros announced that the film, which is being billed as the finale to the franchise so far, is set to hit theaters on September 5, 2025. The fourth Conjuring film, which is currently untitled, is the fourth in the mainline series of movies, which also includes the prequels and spin-offs The Nun, Annabelle, The Curse of La Llorona, and, most recently, The Nun II.

While we now know the release date and the leads for The Conjuring 4, the plot remains under wraps. Of course, those who want to dig deep could perhaps get some clues from the cases of the real Ed and Lorraine Warren. The movies are embellished versions of the “real cases” the couple took on in the 1970s and 1980s, and this will presumably continue the trend of adapting those to the big screen.

Since The Conjuring 4 is being billed as a big finale, the case the story is based on would have to be pretty epic. The franchise also isn’t shy about creating its own lore, as it’s one of the horror franchises with the most lore for fans to dive into, so it’s always possible they could go in a different direction that builds on the prequels and spin-offs from the franchise. In any case, it’s safe to say horror fans will be ready and along for the ride.

The Most Successful Horror Franchise In History

To date, The Conjuring franchise has grossed over $2 billion. The franchise kicked off with the 2013 film The Conjuring, directed by James Wan and produced by Peter Safran. The film starred Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. It was a huge hit, grossing over $319 million worldwide.

The Smash Hit Spin-Off

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprised their roles in other movies in The Conjuring franchise, but the franchise would find its biggest success in the prequel The Nun, which grossed over $366 million worldwide. Meanwhile, the combined budgets of the films have been $208 million, making it the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. Reviews of the films have been relatively mixed, with the first two films in the franchise getting the most praise.

The Returning Cast

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s performances as Ed and Lorraine have been consistently praised throughout the series, so bringing them back for The Conjuring 4 should make fans happy. Michael Chaves returns to direct after handling directing duties on The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Curse of La Llorona. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick pens the script while James Wan and Peter Safran return as producers.

Horror Fans Have A Lot To Look Forward To

In addition to announcing the release date of The Conjuring 4, Warner Bros also announced that Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride will be coming out September 29, 2025. That’s far enough away that the film shouldn’t cannibalize too many ticket sales from The Conjuring 4, but it’s safe to say that horror fans will have plenty of options next Fall. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on more news about The Conjuring 4, The Bride, and other horror films on the horizon.
