The Boys Season 5 Keeps Superhero Satire Going But How Much Longer
The Boys has officially been renewed for Season 5 just about one month ahead of its Season 4 premiere on Prime Video. The news came during a presentation earlier today for advertisers in New York, the same event that announced the live-action Spider-Man Noir series starring Nicolas Cage.
This is terrific for fans of the satirical superhero series as it means that – no matter what happens to our favorite characters in the next batch of episodes – more action, gore, and comedy will be on the way.
Season 3 Upped The Stakes
Season 3 of The Boys set up Season 4 (and now Season 5) to be an explosively diabolical time with Homelander (Antony Starr) and Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) joining forces as political allies.
Last season, audiences watched as the world was more torn than ever, with folks aligning themselves with either Homelander or Starlight (Erin Moriarty). After gaining the trust of his biological son, Homelander is nearly unstoppable and more in Billy Butcher’s (Karl Urban) sights than ever.
How Will Billy Tie In?
Speaking of Billy, when we left off with him, he only had a few months to live, thanks to his extreme usage of the drug Compound V, which gave him superhuman abilities before the juice wore off. For much of Season 3, the titular gang of vigilantes were separated on their own missions, with Butcher being ousted as the leader by the end.
As we move into the political realm for Season 4 of The Boys, there are plenty of questions left to be answered, and presumably will be even more by the time Season 5 rolls around.
The Impact Of Gen V
One thing we can expect to see arch its way from The Boys Season 4 to Season 5 is a plot point introduced in the show’s spin-off series, Gen V.
Starring names like Jaz Sinclair, Maddie Phillips, and the late Chance Perdomo; Gen V introduced audiences to a young group of up-and-coming Supes all studying at the prestigious Godolkin University – a school for the super enabled. During the first season, we learned that a virus used to kill Supes was created, and we now know that it will affect the universe of The Boys moving forward.
No Idea Who Will Live To See Season 5
Right now, it’s unclear what The Boys Season 5 will be about and who will be in it. It all hinges on the events of Season 4 and how the Supes and civilians handle the political upheaval and said Supe-killing drug. We’re also unsure about what characters to expect to make a comeback, as no one is truly safe in Eric Kripke’s (Supernatural) latest project.
Season 4 Is Around The Corner
We know that fans are in for a treat when The Boys Season 4 lands on Prime Video on June 13 and that it will only carry on its greatness into Season 5 and hopefully beyond. As long as Kripke and the rest of his creative team continue to hit the darkly comedic note and stay in the lane of satire (while tossing in some fun cameos), audiences will continue to flock to the absurdly innovative and outrageously on-the-nose series.
