The Boys Mock Karl Urban’s Breakout Role In The Funniest Way
The Boys' social media account roasted Karl Urban with an image of him in Lord of the Rings.
When it comes to some of Hollywood’s biggest franchise hits, there’s almost no one more recognizable than The Boys star Karl Urban. And while he may have held down roles in the MCU and Star Trek, the cheeky marketing team behind The Boys’ Twitter account is taking a shot at his role as Éomer in The Lord of the Rings. In a tweet, which you can see below, the folks behind the keyboard of the Prime Video series made a sassy play on words with a photo of the actor as Billy Butcher with “Karl Urban” written above it, next to his much more farmland-type look as Éomer with the words “Karl Rural” penned above.
Or course, the well-played dig is taking a stab at the actor’s look in both The Boys and The Lord of the Rings, which are vastly different from one another. On The Boys, Karl Urban’s character Billy Butcher wears a long black duster complete with stylish clothing underneath and a well-manicured beard. On the other hand, Éomer, known as the leader of the Riders of Rohan, is of Middle Earth/medieval times, living on farmland and riding a horse with his gorgeous long, blonde locks flowing in the breeze.
The two characters couldn’t be any more different with Billy Butcher being a man of revenge and questionable morals and Éomer being a man of high morals and discipline. But at the end of the day, The Lord of the Rings rider and The Boys group leader are both masterfully played by Karl Urban with each pushing against the evils of their universes. Both are also truly diabolical.
As for his time on The Boys, Karl Urban is currently in Toronto filming what will be the fourth season of the Eric Kripke-created series. Last we saw, Butcher was finally welcomed back into the fold alongside the rest of the titular anti-Supe group, having made some major mistakes during the third season. After repeatedly injecting the Supe formula, Compound V, in hopes of carrying out full revenge on his nemesis Homelander (Antony Starr), the final episodes of the season saw Butcher diagnosed with aggressive cancer and not a lot of time to live.
While little is known about the upcoming season of The Boys, we do know that along with Karl Urban, a slew of our other favorite actors will return. Of course, there will be the synonymous team played by Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid, Tomer Capone, Erin Moriarty, and Karen Fukuhara, as well as members of The Seven including Antony Starr, Jesse T. Usher, and Chace Crawford. With Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve and Nathan Mitchell’s Black Noir seemingly no longer a part of the story and Erin Moriarty’s Starlight switching sides, The Seven will need to make some big decisions about who will be promoted to the leading team in the upcoming season.
If you’re aching for more stories surrounding The Boys and can’t wait to see the Karl Urban-led series make its way back to Prime Video, you’re in luck as the spinoff series, Gen V is on the way. This time, audiences will be introduced to a new set of superpower-inclined individuals by way of teens studying at Godolkin University – a school created to help young Supes hone their powers. As of right now, no release date has been set, but we’ve caught some very bloody first looks that promise the series will keep up with the spirit of The Boys.
