Amazon Prime Video has season two of The Boys currently underway. The show is receiving rave reviews from fans and critics, and Amazon has just announced a spinoff to their hit superhero series.

Announced by Deadline, the new Amazon Prime Video series will take place at a superhero college, and the new show is being written by The Boys executive producer Craig Rosenberg. Amazon’s description of the show is as follows: “Set at America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (and run by Vought International), the Untitled Boys Spinoff is described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games – with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.

The show has apparently been in the works for quite some time and has only been put into quick turnaround due to the recent success of The Boys’ second season. Within the first ten days of season one’s release, The Boys had been viewed by 8 million total viewers, making it one of Amazon Prime Video’s most successful programs. In the first two weeks after season two’s release, The Boys had almost doubled its worldwide audience. The finale of the current season will occur on October 9.

Many members of the team confirmed the news through Twitter, with executive producer Seth Rogen stating, “The Vaught Cinematic Universe is expanding.” The Boys developer and executive producer Eric Kripke also said of the news, “THAT’S RIGHT, MOTHERF***ERS. (Seriously, I’m so grateful to you all for making #TheBoys such a huge success. I’m having the time of my life, so I can’t thank you enough. Much, MUCH more to come!)”

This is just another sign of Amazon Prime Video’s continued support of its popular superhero show. In July, it was announced that The Boys had already been renewed for a third season. Filming for the third season is currently scheduled to begin in 2021. This second season has also been given an after-show, entitled, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys, hosted by Aisha Tyler. Following its premiere on July 26, 2019, The Boys quickly became one of Amazon’s most popular original programs, and this “Untitled Boys Spinoff” will be the first spinoff from Amazon Studios.

This second season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys has introduced quite a new cast of characters to spice up the latest season. The biggest addition to the cast is You’re the Worst’s Aya Cash as Stormfront, who in the original comic books was a male character. Another major get is X-Men veteran Shawn Ashmore as Lamplighter, who was known for breaking up the first version of The Boys. Other new additions have included Cameron Crovetti as Ryan – the son of Homelander and Becca – Lovina Yavari’s Ruby, Black Lightning’s P.J. Bryne as Bourke, ER’s Goran Visnjic as Alistair Adana, Claudia Doumit as Victoria Nueman, and Patton Oswalt.

In an interview with Vulture, Cash discussed her complicated decision to take on the role of Stormfront. She said, “The world of The Boys is attempting to satirize and comment on what is happening in our own world. That felt like an exciting opportunity, but obviously I wanted to make sure that the people who are actually making the show – because I don’t write the show – were being thoughtful about it.”

One can assume that this Untitled Boys Spinoff will also feature the same thoughtful and careful commentary on our times as The Boys.
