Now Is The Perfect Time To Watch The Accountant On Netflix
When you think of Ben Affleck’s most successful movies, The Accountant may not be one of the first that come to mind, but it should. Following its release in 2016, it raked in $155 million worldwide and now it’s available to stream on Netflix.
Ben Affleck Is The Accountant
In The Accountant, Affleck plays a man who goes by the alias “Christian Wolff” who is on the autism spectrum.
As a boy, his dad trained him and his brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) in various martial arts while also encouraging Christian to become used to the things that trigger him rather than avoid them.
In the present day, Christian works as a freelance accountant for some of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the world. However, the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division starts to close in. It’s run by Ray King, played by J.K. Simmons.
Top Tier Cast
The cast of The Accountant is top-tier talent: John Lithgow, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor, and Anna Kendrick.
Kendrick plays Dana Cummings, an accountant at Living Robotics (one of Christian’s legitimate clients) who notices the irregularities with their books. Dana is able to get close to Christian, which a lot of people have not been able to do.
Reception For The Accountant
The Accountant was praised for Affleck’s performance and the action sequences featuring Pencak silat, which is an Indonesian martial art. However, the film received mixed reviews from critics and was also criticized for its portrayal of autism. It’s been called offensive to people with autism, partly because of its violence and gun use.
While The Accountant has a 53 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 76 percent audience score. The action-thriller made $24.7 million on its opening weekend, finishing first at the box office, and was the second-highest debut for a thriller of Affleck’s entire career, behind Gone Girl.
The Accountant 2
Because of the success of The Accountant, it’s not a huge surprise that there is a sequel. The Accountant 2 started principal production this week, with the release date said to be mid-2025.
Returning are Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, J.K. Simmons, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and director Gavin O’Connor. Reportedly not coming back is Anna Kendrick.
The plot line for the sequel is said to start with Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Addai-Robinson). When her former boss is killed by unknown assassins, she contacts Christian Wolff (Affleck) to help solve the murder. Christian’s brother will play a bigger role this time around.
Sequel Will Stream On Amazon
The Accountant 2 moved to Amazon MGM Studios after it had been in development for many years at Warner Bros.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Artists Equity, the production company Affleck founded with Matt Damon, was able to license the sequel rights from Warners Bros.
According to Screen Rant, The Accountant 2 will get a streaming-only release on Prime Video instead of theaters.
