The Accountant 2 Is Why Ben Affleck And Jennifer Lopez Are Falling Apart?
More news is coming out about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage, specifically that Affleck has been staying busy with The Accountant 2 amidst the issues. Earlier reports said that Affleck moved his things out of their currently-for-sale house and that he has been at his office every day. Affleck also reportedly missed attending the 2024 Met Gala alongside Lopez, who co-chaired the event, because he was shooting The Accountant sequel.
The Ongoing Tabloid Turmoil
The reports also said that the move-out was due to his work on The Accountant 2 and that Affleck missed the red carpet for Lopez’s Atlas film due to being busy with the movie. In other words, it seems like Affleck is throwing himself into this upcoming sequel, so we’ll have to wait and see if it ends up being better than the original. At the very least, you’d think it would be an improvement with the time spent on it.
The Accountant
The first film in the franchise starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, an accountant on the autism spectrum who launders money for extremely dangerous criminals. To avoid suspicion from a US Treasury agent, he takes on a legitimate job for a robotics company and uncovers a conspiracy that puts him in even more danger. The film got relatively mixed reviews but did well enough at the box office to warrant The Accountant 2 being made.
The Returning Cast
The Accountant 2 will see Gavin O’Connor returning to direct with a script from Bill Dubuque. Along with Affleck, JK Simmons is set to reprise his role as Ray King, Jon Bernthal will return as Christian’s brother, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson will return as Marybeth Medina. Additions to the cast include Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan, and Grant Harvey.
A New Franchise For Affleck?
Ben Affleck could simply be spending a lot of time on The Accountant 2 since there’s the potential of a full-on franchise on the line. While getting a green-lit sequel means the franchise train has already started rolling, O’Connor previously revealed that the plan is to make an Accountant trilogy. Undoubtedly, that means the second film’s success will likely determine if the franchise will continue or if it’ll end with just two movies.
Hopefully, that also means The Accountant 2 will improve on some of the first film’s shortcomings. The film was criticized for its portrayal of autism, and getting someone knowledgeable on board could go a long way toward making the second film a better on-screen representation. It should also build on some of the first film’s strengths, namely the fact that the action sequences featured the dynamic Indonesian martial art pencak silat, which you don’t see too often in Hollywood films.
A Marriage On The Rocks
Whether The Accountant 2 is affecting Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage or not, it certainly seems like Affleck is committed to making the movie as good as possible. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. There hasn’t been an announced release date for the sequel yet, but you can check out the first film streaming on Netflix.
