The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition
Set to release on October 1, 2024, the collection couldn’t come at a better time, but with a limited quantity and scary steep asking price, it could very easily massacre anyone’s budget.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition might be a mouthful, even for a family of cannibals, but the very limited edition box set has enough goodies inside to chew on that it just might be worth the mind-boggling $299.98 price tag.
The three-disc collection features a brand new 4K UHD presentation of the classic horror bloodbath, as well as a standard Blu-ray release. There is also a third Blu-ray disc that includes all of the exclusive bonus features, including a feature-length documentary.
A Special Replica Included
However, perhaps the biggest selling point of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition is the replica of the iconic chainsaw from the film, which comes in a special 50th Anniversary numbered box.
The replica chainsaw houses all of the components of the box set, which includes the sound of Leatherface wielding the chainsaw in the film when the plastic chainsaw is opened. If there isn’t room on your shelf, collectors just might need to find room in the tool shed to make room for this behemoth.
VHS As Well?
If receiving a replica chainsaw wasn’t enough to convince you to throw down for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition, then perhaps an exclusive release of a VHS copy of the horror film might entice you.
The box set also includes the original VHS release artwork of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to go along with the tape. So it might be time to dust off the ol’ trusty VCR and take a trip down memory lane.
Only 5,000 Copies
With just 5,000 copies of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition produced, it might be a little hard to get your hands on this pricey collection, which releases on the exact date of the 50th anniversary of the film’s world premiere.
On October 1, 1974, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre debuted in Austin, Texas, over a year after the film had wrapped up production.
Filmmaker Tobe Hooper undertook several on-set duties, including writer, director, producer, and composer in an attempt to keep his film within its original $60,000 budget, which he reportedly doubled by the time the film finished post-production.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Is Iconic Horror
Despite overshooting its budget and initially receiving a lukewarm response from critics, the film became one of the most successful theatrical releases of 1974, earning over $30 million at the box office.
As The Texas Chain Saw Massacre now approaches its 50th anniversary, it still remains one the most iconic horror movies ever made and has made horror fans across the world look twice when hearing the distant sound of a buzzing chainsaw.
