Terminator Zero Netflix Poster Gets Us Even More Excited for Sci-Fi Franchise Rebirth

By Jason Collins | Published

Terminator fans rejoice: Judgement Day draws near! In about a month, Netflix will launch the Terminator Zero animated series. The trailer for the series dropped less than two weeks ago, generating 1.4 million views and nearly 50 thousand likes on YouTube, signaling mass excitement from many fans. Now, less than two weeks after it released the trailer, Netflix revealed the poster for the series to maintain the hype—and it worked.

Terminator Zero Is Set To Energize The Franchise

If you’re wondering why and how a poster for the Terminator Zero Netflix series generates and maintains hype, we understand—in the end, it’s just an image promoting the series. But an image is often worth a thousand words, and that’s precisely what’s happening here since the poster doesn’t just give us a view of our antagonist but also gives us a better look at our protagonist, our heroes, and our side characters. The former is, of course, the iconic Terminator of the Cyberdyne Systems Series 8xx variety.

A New Terminator

The exact model number of the killer robot in the Terminator Zero Netflix series remains unknown, but considering that he’s seen without bits of its skin throughout the trailer, we can assume that it’s not the T-888 seen in the Sara Connor Chronicles series, since that particular model can completely regenerate its skin. What makes this poster interesting is the shot of our heroes, primarily the series protagonist Eiko—voiced by Ex Machina star Sonoya Mizuno—who is a resistance soldier sent back in time to protect a scientist, Malcolm Lee.

AI vs. AI

For those who aren’t familiar with the premise of the Terminator Zero Netflix series, Malcolm Lee (voiced by American Horror Story’s Andre Holland) is the scientist who has been developing another AI system that’s intended to compete with Skynet. Apparently, that AI, named Kokoro and voiced by Ahsoka’s Rosario Dawson, must be a real thorn in Skynet’s RAM module since it prompted the maniacal AI to use its Time Displacement Equipment to send a terminator after Malcolm Lee and his family.

Expectations Are Skyhigh

The poster for the Terminator Zero Netflix series also shows us the image of Malcolm Lee and the visual iteration of Kokoro, as well as (presumably) Malcolm’s wife and kids, whom Eiko is also tasked with protecting. This super-exciting project was announced in February 2021, following a confirmation from Netflix that Production I.G. is overseeing the anime adaptation in collaboration with Skydance Television. The show is Terminator’s anime debut, and the expectations for this adaptation are unsurprisingly high.

Arriving Soon Only On Netflix

Many franchises have been dabbing into the anime medium, given the medium’s rising popularity, its affordability compared to live-action, and the fact that it can be used as a filler release between major live-action releases. What makes this even more interesting is that the quality of anime releases often exceeds that of live-action projects—as seen with the recently released Alien: MONDAY anime. With that in mind, it’s really not surprising that Lightstorm Entertainment decided to develop the Terminator Zero Netflix series in collaboration with the world’s most prominent streamer.

The Terminator Zero Netflix series is scheduled to release on Judgement Day—for those who aren’t that familiar with the franchise, that’s August 29.
