Ted Lasso To Die In Season 3, Return As Ghost?
Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein has a brilliant idea for an unplanned fourth season of the series, where Ted Lasso dies and comes back as a ghost.
The first and second seasons of Ted Lasso seemed like a true underdog story, but season 3 will likely be the final season according to Deadline. Marvel newcomer and Shrinking co-creator Brett Goldstein, however, has been a bit tongue-in-cheek about the fate of Ted Lasso at the conclusion of the season, which premieres March 15 on Apple TV+, stating “season 3 ends with the death of some major characters. I keep saying– I have said to Jason, season 4 could be ‘Ghost Lasso,’ where we carry on but Ted Lasso is now haunting the locker rooms and trying to inspire the players from the other side.”
Goldstein’s statement, however, is likely a joke, as Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Goldstein have all stated in the past that Ted Lasso would end its run after season 3. Leave it to the talent behind the sports comedy drama to throw a couple of curve balls (wrong sports pun, we know!) while handling the press and promoting the show. While we would all love to see some inspiring locker room talk from beyond the grave, the likely reality is that the Emmy Award-winning comedy will have a season 3 resolution that will be satisfying for viewers.
But why hint at a possible “ghost Lasso” scenario if Ted Lasso will wrap after season 3? The rumor may have started when Sudeikis had to field some questions on the personalized video platform, Cameo. While season 3 will likely be the conclusion of the story that was set out to be told from the beginning, fans are always eager for more, and Sudeikis did hint at possible spinoff ideas for the series.
Ted Lasso’s season 3 arc will highlight the difficulties that Lasso has to address. His ex-wife, Michelle, is moving on with her life, and he’s growing increasingly separated from his son as a result. This could mean a dark turn for the titular character as he grows into a depression that is uncharacteristic for his personality, which has been optimistic, and full of humor and charm up to this point.
Ted Lasso is a sports comedy-drama that is not only a fish out of water story, but also one of triumph against incredible odds. The story follows Lasso, an American college football coach who is set up for failure when he is recruited to coach an English Premier League soccer team. However, Lasso’s positive attitude compounded by the fact that he’s one heck of a coach proves everybody wrong when he leads AFC Richmond to victory. While Ted Lasso seems to be on the up and up in his career, he will find himself to be at odds with his personal life in season 3.
While we’d all hate to see Ted Lasso conclude after season 3, you can’t blame us for wanting to see the show continue to explore new territory. But at the end of the day, the writers know what’s best, and they have the accolades to prove it. The series was nominated for 20 Primetime Emmy Awards and took home seven, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The show has also received two Golden Globe Awards, seven Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild awards among many others.
Ted Lasso may be concluding after season 3 wraps, but sometimes it’s not the destination that needs to be considered, but rather the journey and storytelling along the way. Season 3 of the hit series will premiere on March 15, 2023, and will conclude on May 31.
