We reported on Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film already busting records for advanced pre-sale tickets, and now the official opening day numbers show that the records won’t stop soon. The Swifties came out in full force and nabbed the film $39 million on its opening day from 3,855 North American locations. This makes it the second-biggest October opening day ever, falling just short of Joker‘s $39.3 million in 2019 (via Variety).

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film fell $300,000 short of dethroning Joker as the biggest October opening of all time but will claim the title of biggest concert film opening weekend ever.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was always going to be a box office smash, but the question is just how big of a smash it will be. Early projections predicted as much as $125 million for the first three days of screenings, but the opening day numbers mean that the actual numbers will be a bit shy of that. However, it’s very possible for the film to top the $100 million mark.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be easily demolishing the competition at the box office this weekend, especially because the other films have already had their opening weekends. The Exorcist: Believer is projected to take the second place spot with roughly $11 million, while Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie is looking at somewhere in the $6.1 million range. There are probably plenty of studios thanking their lucky stars that their opening weekend wasn’t scheduled for the same slot as Swift’s film.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour should be one of the highest-grossing opening weekends of the year, giving both Swift and AMC a big win. AMC partnered with Swift for distribution of the concert film and has been screening it in premium screen formats, helping to boost the numbers even more. Add the social media campaigning, which encourages Swifties to sing and dance along as if they were actually at the concert, and you have a recipe for big revenue.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is providing Swift fans with an opportunity to experience her blockbuster tour, which spans all the different eras of Swift’s career. The tour has been a massive pop culture phenomenon, receiving rave reviews and selling out arena venues worldwide. The tour, which ends after a final leg in 2024, is set to potentially be the biggest tour in concert history, reportedly already grossing $2 billion.

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour comes at the pinnacle of her fame and in the middle of her billion-dollar world tour.

It is Taylor Swift’s year, as on top of her massive tour and record-breaking film, she has also boosted the NFL’s ratings (at least for Kansas City Chiefs games) thanks to her reported relationship with tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce got some of the Swift effect, too, with sales for his jersey skyrocketing and gaining millions of Instagram followers. The only question that remains now is — is there any area of entertainment that Swift can’t rule?

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will finish its initial screening on Monday before it is taken out of theaters for the week. It will be brought back to theaters on Thursday for initial screenings. If you want to go see it, it sounds like you better get your tickets fast.
