Catch Tarantino’s Bloodiest Masterpiece Before It Leaves Netflix For Good
Fans of Quentin Tarantino have lauded the prolific filmmaker for his graphic depictions of violence, classic revenge storytelling, and interesting modern takes on old-school genre films. If you’re looking for a movie that perfectly blends all of those criteria into a single masterpiece, look no further than Kill Bill. Both volumes of Kill Bill are currently available to stream on Netflix, though they’re slated to leave the streamer for good on July 1.
Kill Bill Is A Masterpiece
While Kill Bill is technically two films, split into 2003’s Volume 1 and 2004’s Volume 2, Tarantino has always considered the project to be one movie, split only for the purposes of not going overboard on the runtime. It seems that Netflix feels the same way about the Kill Bill franchise, as the two films arrived on the streamer at the same time and are now set to depart at the same time as well. The films were released theatrically just six months apart from one another.
A Love Letter To Tarantino’s Favorite Films
The Kill Bill movies are considered Quentin Tarantino’s fourth venture, following such classics as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown. The legendary filmmaker wrote and directed both entries, which tout performances from A-listers such as Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Lucy Liu, and Vivica A. Fox. Tarantino originally conceived the concept of the film as a modern take on iconic samurai, spaghetti Western, and blaxploitation movies of the 20th century.
One Of The Greatest Revenge Movies Ever Made
Kill Bill centers on a woman known only as the Bride, a former member of a deadly team of all-female assassins led by a sociopath crime lord named Bill. When the bride awakens from a four-year-long coma, she learns that Bill and the others attempted to kill her and her unborn child as she is comatose and resolves to take them out.
As the film continues, the Bride hacks, slashes, punches, shoots, and kicks her way through droves of assassins and henchmen in increasingly spectacular fashion. Without getting into spoiler territory, the film offers some of the most high-strung violence and shocking gore of any film in Tarantino’s catalog.
Rumors Of A Third Film
The Kill Bill movies are largely considered to be Quentin Tarantino‘s finest work by a massive subset of his fan base, and the filmmaker has made it clear that he’d be interested in following them up with a Volume 3 over two decades later.
If a third Kill Bill does go into production, the filmmaker has expressed interest in tapping Uma Thurman’s real-life daughter Maya Hawke for the role, as the young Stranger Things star is the spitting image of her mother.
Catch Kill Bill While You Can
For now, fans are eagerly awaiting any word from Tarantino regarding his upcoming tenth and allegedly final film, with many holding out hope that Kill Bill Volume 3 can still make the cut. While no such film has gone into production, it seems clear that now is the perfect time to rewatch these movies before they disappear from Netflix for good.
