Sydney Sweeney Sci-Fi Reboot Gets Surprise Tie-In Release Before Movie
Sydney Sweeney’s Barbarella reboot is on its way, but first, the franchise is returning to its roots. Jane Fonda’s 1968 film was actually based on the French comic by Jean-Claude Forest and now Dynamite Entertainment is rebooting the comics ahead of the new movie. The new comic series has a dream team working on it, with Blake Northcott writing the scripts and Anna Morozova handling the artwork.
The Comic Book Creators
Northcott is best known for her collaborations with the legendary Heavy Metal magazine while Anna Morozova has worked on 2000 AD and Judge Dredd: The Megazine.
According to Dynamite Entertainment Marketing Coordinator Vincent Faust, the team was inspired to go with a more traditional comic release rather than a one-shot or a crowdfunding effort thanks to the renewed interest in Sydney Sweeney’s upcoming Barbarella reboot.
Now fans will be able to see the new version of Barbarella when the new comic comes to comic shops on October 2.
The Comic
The new comic series will see Barbarella enjoying some time off after saving the world, only to find that “not all pleasure planets are created equal.” There is also Earth’s oldest and most venerable colony in need of her help on the other side of the galaxy. Sydney Sweeney’s Barbarella reboot will likely be telling its own story, but the new comic series does promise that there will be some returning characters that will resonate with fans of the original movie.
A Possible Filmmaking Team Assembled
The news of this comic reboot is exciting enough, but Sydney Sweeney’s Barbarella reboot also got some interesting news of its own recently.
Back in May, it was reported that Edgar Wright was in talks to direct the film with Jane Holdman and Honey Ross in negotiations to handle the script. Wright is currently working on The Running Man reboot with Sweeney’s Anyone But You co-star, Glen Powell, so it may be a while before his schedule is ready for Barbarella.
Sweeney’s Recent Work
Edgar Wright being too busy to work on the project right now isn’t too big of a deal though, as Sydney Sweeney also has a lot going on before Barbarella can start filming.
Sweeney had a major hit with Anyone But You last year, and pretty soon, she’ll be busy reprising her breakout role in Euphoria. After tons of delays and waiting, the hit HBO series is finally set to start filming the third season in January 2025.
More News To Come
With Edgar Wright working on The Running Man reboot and Sydney Sweeney working on Euphoria, it’s probably safe to say we’ll have to wait until at least late 2025 for the movie to start filming.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but it at least seems like everyone announced to be involved in the project is eager to make it happen. Unless something drastic happens, it’s hard to imagine this movie won’t get made as soon as the talent is available.
While we might have to wait a while for Sydney Sweeney’s Barbarella, at least fans of the franchise aren’t getting left in the cold. The comic series should definitely help to make the wait sting less. Make sure to check out the new comic when it drops on October 2.
