Leonard Nimoy’s Widow Returns To Acting Thanks To Another Spock
An upcoming episode of a popular NBC medical drama will feature a guest appearance by Susan Nimoy, the widow of the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy. The star of Brilliant Minds, Zachary Quinto, got to know the late Star Trek actor when Quinto took over the role in the films 15 years ago. The actor was so taken by the Nimoy couple that he flew the widow from her Los Angeles home so that she could guest star alongside him on an episode that will debut on NBC September 23.
Brilliant Minds
Susan Nimoy will be playing a senior that is suffering from a medical condition that “causes her to experience hypersexuality.” In a recent interview, Quinto quipped that the guest star is “an 80-year-old nymphomaniac,” also noting that the actress gave a great performance.
Spock And Spock
Zachary Quinto is said to have grown rather close to the late actor, who passed away in 2015. The Brilliant Minds star has portrayed the character first popularized by Leonard Nimoy in three different films, beginning in 2009 with 2009’s Star Trek, directed by J.J. Abrams.
Since then, Quinto resumed the role of the logical Vulcan in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016).
Susan’s Early Career
Susan Nimoy made her acting debut on a 1963 episode of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Throughout the rest of the 1960s, the actress appeared as a guest star in multiple sitcoms and TV dramas that include Dr. Kildare, Ben Casey, Burke’s Law, Perry Mason, and This is the Life.
Her film roles were limited to small parts as she added The Skydivers, Divorce American Style, and The Big Mouth to her growing resume before the decade ended.
As the 60s folded into the 70s, Susan Nimoy found fewer roles, but still remained active in the industry through the late 1990s. Episodes of Hart to Hart, Starsky and Hutch, and L.A. Law were roles she took in between the films Alone at Last and America, You’re On.
Later Work
But aside from a small supporting role in the 2009 drama Mother and Child and a starring role in her 2018 Sundance Short Film Jury Prize Nominee Eve, Susan Nimoy has been avoiding time in front of the camera since her two-episode stint on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Admiral Rollman from 1993-94.
The actress did chalk up some various behind the scenes credits in the last two decades, namely for producing the HBO original film Simple as Water in 2021.
Perhaps Susan Nimoy’s most significant contribution to the industry is her co-creation of the Women’s Steering Committee of the Directors Guild of America. She and five other women directors became known as the Original Six, who protested against gender discrimination in Hollywood at all levels.
Leonard And Susan
The widow of the famed Star Trek actor married the late Leonard Nimoy in 1989. Prior to that, Susan Nimoy was married to actor John Schuck. She began collaborating with Nimoy in the 1980s when she held the role of a production consultant on 1988’s The Good Mother, which the late Spock actor directed.
