Supernatural Season 16 In The Works
Ever since the 2020 finale of The CW’s most popular series, Supernatural, fans have been eager to see a revival. Though series stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have since moved on to a host of other projects, a large swath of fans maintain that the season 15 series ending was not a satisfying conclusion to the Winchester brothers’ story, demanding a 16th season order. Now it looks like Supernatural season 16 is on the way.
Per a write-up in Startefacts, star Jensen Ackles hints that conversations about making Supernatural season 16 are happening.
These days, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are household names for their leading contributions to Supernatural, as well as a myriad of other projects, including The Boys, Batman: The Long Halloween, and The CW’s Walker. Of course, as the boys continue to branch out into new and exciting endeavors, fans have continued to ask for a return to their largest on-screen roles as the Winchester brothers. After airing for over 15 years, the series, which follows a family mired with ghouls, goblins, and all manner of supernatural enemies, has inspired a cult-like fan base ravenous for a proper conclusion.
Though Jensen Ackles reprised his role as Dean Winchester in the prequel series The Winchesters, fans still felt the franchise wasn’t the same without the dynamic duo at the center of Supernatural reuniting for another adventure. In fact, the creation of The Winchesters led to a brief Twitter feud between co-stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, as the latter actor hadn’t been informed of the series’ creation until news of the production went public. Padalecki rightfully felt left out of the latest Supernatural franchise installment, though the pair reunited and hashed it out shortly thereafter.
The Winchesters was canceled by The CW before Jensen Ackles and his former Supernatural co-host could reunite for the prequel. However, the window remains open for another spinoff or Supernatural season 16 revival.
The TV brothers appeared together during a recent press panel. They answered several questions regarding the possibility of a new Supernatural outing, offering insight into the ongoing revival process. Padalecki specifically noted that the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes means the likelihood of bringing his ideas to life is closer than ever. At the same time, Ackles timidly elucidated that conversations regarding the revival had only just begun.
According to Jensen Ackles, the entire cast and crew of Supernatural are more than willing to get back to work on the haunting series for Supernatural season 16. However, scheduling and budgeting have become a concern, halting the momentum of the production.
Regardless, the The Boys actor has assured his fans that the team will be ready to dive back in when the time is right. For now, there have been no confirmed public reports that a new Supernatural spinoff or revival in the form of Supernatural season 16 is underway. However, the network is likely aware that fans of the series would flock to anything within the franchise with open arms, especially if it reunites the Winchester boys on screen for the first time in over three years.
