Fans of Teen Wolf can rejoice because a fan-favorite character has agreed to return for the upcoming movie revival. Tyler Hoechlin has signed on to return as Derek Hale along with Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Crystal Reed, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Colton Haynes, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, Ian Bohen, Vince Mattis, Nobi Nakanishi, Khylin Rhambo, Amy Workman, and Dylan Sprayberry. Tyler Hoechlin was a notable holdout from returning to the movie, with other fan-favorites Dylan O’Brien and Arden Cho still missing from the cast list.
Arden Cho has mentioned that she won’t be returning because her salary was much lower than the salaries of other female co-stars. The report comes from Deadline, so it looks like she’s going to be unlikely to return. Dylan O’Brien turning down the role seemed a little more amicable, as he mentioned to Variety that he loved being a part of the show but he felt like he left it in a good place. So, he officially won’t be added to the cast. Dylan O’Brien was in 92 episodes of the series as Stiles Stilinski, second in appearances only to Tyler Posey and Holland Roden. Tyler Hoechlin appeared in 63 episodes of the show and was also there since the very beginning, so fans will be glad to see him back. Arden Cho entered the series later as the Kitsune Kira Yukimura.
While Tyler Hoechlin is keeping plenty busy with his role as Superman on CW’s Superman & Lois, it’s nice to see that he’ll have time to return to the role that really helped put him on the map. Teen Wolf hit MTV in 2011 and ran for six seasons. The show followed Tyler Posey’s, Scott McCall as he navigates high school and his newly found werewolf powers. Throughout the series, we saw supernatural creatures like Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and more. Hoechlin played Derek Hale, Scott’s werewolf mentor, and long-time ally. Though the two were sometimes in conflict during the series, they ended with complete loyalty to each other.
Teen Wolf: The Movie will see the rise of a new deadly enemy in Beacon Hills, and Scott McCall will have to bring together allies and friends to face their most powerful and dangerous threat yet. According to news about the movie, Tyler Hoechlin’s character will also have a son in the movie, who will be played by Vince Mattis. While we now have most of the original cast on board, apparently there are still names that will be announced to join the fray.
If you’re looking to catch up on Teen Wolf before the movie hits, you have a few places where you can stream it. You can watch it on Hulu, Amazon Prime, or on the future home of the upcoming movie, Paramount+. The movie is likely going to be exclusive to Paramount+, so that might be the best place to watch the series. You can see more of Tyler Hoechlin on Superman & Lois, which will continue its second season on May 31.
