Superman: Legacy

Now that we all already know James Gunn is heading up the creative side of DC Studios at Warner Bros, and we’ve been clued into the fact that the studio’s first film will be a Superman reboot with David Corenswet as the last son of Krypton, we’re chomping at the bit for news whenever it pops up. The latest news on this front involves pictures of one of Corenswet’s co-stars, Edi Gathegi. Gathegi will star in Superman as Mr. Terrific, and fans could not be more excited as this will be his first appearance in a live-action film.

Mr. Terrific Hits Theaters

An online publication out of Cleveland, Ohio, Cleveland Dot Com, has published photos to its X account that show footage of the Superman film being shot in downtown Cleveland. In those pictures, we can see Corenswet in his classic red and blue Superman outfit, complete with an S on the cape, and Gathegi as Mr. Terrific in an outfit that seems to perfectly match the comic book style.

A Different Version Found On Arrow

The first and only other live-action appearance by Mr. Terrific was in the CW’s Arrow. Arrow fans met Curtis Holt (played by Echo Kellum) well into the series, in Season 4, as an employee of Felicity Smoak at Palmer Technologies. He had previously been an Olympic athlete who won the bronze medal and was known for his high level of intelligence.

During one of Oliver Queen’s darker periods as the Arrow, Curtis became a vigilante and then a member of Team Arrow. Though we never see Superman in this series, we do get plenty of crossovers with Supergirl, and Mr. Terrific is an essential part of the crew.

DC’s Genius-Level Hero

In Superman, we will get a slightly different version of Mr. Terrific, Michael Holt. The character, Michael Curtis Holt, first appeared in DC Comics in 1997 in Spectre. The classic version of Michael Holt has a genius-level intellect, is a scientist, an engineer, and a medical doctor, and he’s a skilled athlete and martial artist. Indeed, he possesses 14 PhDs and built a multi-million dollar company, which he then sold to Waynetech.

The Justice Society Of America

It is reasonable to expect that Gunn will return to this version of the hero in Superman as Mr. Terrific serves the Justice Society of America as its chairman. It is worth noting that the JSA is the precursor to the Justice League of America, which is co-run by Batman. Mr. Terrific and Batman have a friendly rivalry, so it will be interesting to see what the relationship is between Superman and Mr. Terrific in the upcoming film.

Superman Is The Start Of A New Era

As of now, we have a pretty full cast of heroes and supporting characters for the upcoming film, and fans are excited to catch every glimpse we can of the footage on the ground. Rachel Brosnahan should make a delightful Lois, Nathan Fillion should give us a nice grumpy Green Lantern, and it will be fascinating to watch Nicholas Hoult play Lex Luthor. Superman is going to be filled with guest stars, and Mr. Terrific is only the start of the reveals.
