Superman Crewmember Found Dead Near Atlanta Set
While much of the attention on the upcoming James Gunn Superman film is the fact that it is now less than a year before its scheduled release, things with the movie recently took a tragic turn. This week, one of the crew members who has been working on the film was found dead in her car at the studio from a gunshot wound. The police believe the death was the result of a suicide.
No Suspicion Of Foul Play
Nobody associated with DC has commented on the incident as of yet, but the police did make a public statement about the circumstances on the Superman set. Fayetteville Police officer Austin Dunn commented on the situation via an email, saying, “Arriving officers and medical personnel found the patient deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Evidence collected revealed no suspicion of foul play, nor is the investigation connected to any ongoing studio projects.”
Still A Developing Story
The call to the police happened at 6:47 a.m., alerting officers to a person spotted unconscious in their car at the Superman set at Trilith Studios. Police and paramedics arrived on the scene but discovered that the crew member was already deceased. Though the individual was found that morning of Wednesday the 24th of July, it is not clear if that is when the incident occurred or if the crew member had been there from the night before.
The individual has also not been identified at this time nor has it been revealed what her role was on the Superman set other than it being shared that she was one of the crew members. The movie itself is said to be close to wrapping up its production. However, there will no doubt be further inquiries and investigation into this situation to fully understand the circumstances that led to it.
Production For Superman Is Nearly Wrapped
This latest Superman movie stars David Corenswet as the titular hero and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. In recent months production photos have started being shared showing off the costumes of various characters to drum up fan excitement. Production for the film had started back in February.
The movie itself is part of a huge rebrand for DC, following the failure of the DCEU. James Gunn’s version of Superman is essentially a relaunch of the DC cinematic universe, so a great deal is riding on the film’s success. This will actually be the first solo movie for Superman since 2013’s Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder.
James Gunn’s DCU
Following James Gunn’s success with Marvel for the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and then with DC for The Suicide Squad, expectations are high to see what the director can do when working on one of the most popular characters in comics. Superman has struggled to consistently have films that audiences connect to, so it is a demonstration of a lot of faith for DC to put Gunn in the role of attempting to restore the character to his prime.
A Little Under A Year To Go
Other projects for the new DC universe are already in discussion, but the release of Superman on July 11, 2025 is viewed as the brand’s attempt to finally gain a foothold in their competition with the MCU. The official new logo for Superman in the movie was recently revealed in commemoration of the movie having less than a year before it hits screens.
