Super Mario Brothers Movie Coming Soon To Peacock
If you weren’t one of the many people who saw The Super Mario Bros Movie in theaters, you’ll get your chance to stream it soon. According to Deadline, the film will be streaming exclusively on Peacock starting August 3. You’ll even get some bonus content, as the streaming version will include behind-the-scenes cast interviews, an immersive “Field Guide,” and a lyric sing-a-along video for Jack Black’s hit song “Peaches.”
The Super Mario Bros Movie arrives on Peacock August 3.
There’s little doubt that The Super Mario Bros Movie will draw big streaming numbers, considering the theatrical version made over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. The film also picked up an additional $75 million on PVOD, so people want to watch it at home. Those impressive numbers make the movie the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time and the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time.
When The Super Marios Bros Movie first announced its cast list during a Nintendo Direct, fans were confused, to say the least. However, the cast ended up doing a great job, and the movie received generally warm reviews overall.
The cast list includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya-Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan Michael-Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Khary Payton as the Penguin King.
Original Mario (and other Nintendo characters) voice actor Charles Martinet even got a cameo in The Super Mario Bros Movie. The film was a fun tribute to Shigeru Miyamoto’s beloved video game world. And the film’s immense success means we can expect to see more from the Nintendo universe from Universal and Illumination.
Following the success of The Super Mario Bros Movie Nintendo is rumored to bringing other franchises to the big screen.
While there was a tease at the end of The Super Mario Bros Movie about what could be next, nothing hasn’t been officially announced in the Nintendo universe. Rumors suggest that we will be seeing a spin-off starring Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong. There are also rumors that Illumination will be bringing us an animated The Legend of Zelda film.
While fans eventually warmed to the idea of Chris Pratt as the cheery and goofy Mario, they should probably avoid casting Pratt as the typically silent protagonist Link in The Legend of Zelda.
Especially if they decide to go for an MCU-esque cinematic universe and build up to a Super Smash Bros movie. In any case, there’s little doubt that Universal and Illumination are just going to let this massive IP sit for very long.
What’s Next For The Super Mario Bros
The summer and early fall dog days are looking to be fun months for Mario fans. Not only will fans get to see The Super Marios Bros Movie with bonus features on Peacock, but there is also a brand new Mario game on the way titled Super Mario Bros Wonder. The announced game is a classic 2D-platforming Mario game arriving on October 20 and will let players control Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, and Toad.
