Super Mario Bros Movie Bringing Back Another Fan-Favorite Character?
Slowly, but surely, we are getting more information about the new Super Mario Bros movie with every passing trailer. We have heard what Chris Pratt sounds like as Mario, including Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya-Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, and what Donkey Kong looks like. However, a new leak has indicated that the movie will be bringing in the fan-favorite Luma character to the movie, who is Mario’s guide in Super Mario Galaxy.
The usual case for leaks comes from merchandise reveals, and a new reveal via a McDonald’s toy has revealed that Luma could be in the new Super Mario Bros movie. While the leak could be taken with a grain of salt, as the toy only indicates that a Luma will be part of the kid’s meal options, it could mean that a Luma character will be appearing in the movie at some point. This is huge considering she has not been revealed in the two trailers that have been shown or been revealed via a casting announcement.
Even bigger than a singular Luma, it could mean that the “mother” of all the Lunas is also going to be part of the Super Mario Bros movie, which is the fan-favorite character, Rosalina. Rosalina has been featured in games like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart 7, Mario Golf: World Tour, and Super Smash Bros 4. She was originally voiced by Mercedes Rose before Kerri Kane took over for the majority of the character’s game appearances.
Neither woman has been listed as part of the cast, but Charles Martinet is part of the Super Mario Bros movie, which could mean some other past voice actors could be voicing some of the fan-favorite characters via cameos in the movie. From the trailers, it does look as though Mario is blasted into many different realms, at least according to Princess Peach. Though he finds himself in the Mushroom Kingdom, he could make his way somewhere in the galaxy to find himself coming face to face with a Luma and Rosalina.
The Super Mario Bros movie looks as though it is going to involve some good fan service, as the trailers have showcased some iconic locations and games, including the dreaded Rainbow Road in Mario Kart. While we don’t know every game that is going to be referenced, we would imagine that some of the more iconic games in the long-standing Mario franchise are going to be shown, even if only briefly. It appears that Donkey Kong Country has also been shown in the last trailer.
The good news is that the Super Mario Bros movie is going to be available to watch in theaters starting on April 7, 2023. While that is not a long time to wait, we could be finding out more about who is going to be showing up in terms of characters and locations those characters come from. The above-leaked toy could also just be part of the promotions happening at McDonald’s in Japan and won’t be available to the rest of the world.
