Suits

Following the unprecedented success of Suits on Netflix, series creator Aaron Korsh is in talks to develop an offshoot for NBCUniversal. According to Deadline, negotiations are still underway. However, the project, described as legal procedural within the Suits universe, similar to the CSI and NCIS franchises, is expected to be fast-tracked with a serious commitment.

The Suits offshoot will introduce fresh characters in a different setting, with Los Angeles tapped as the potential backdrop for the new workplace drama. Korsh is expected to serve as executive producer and will be joined by David Bartis and Doug Liman, who previously worked as executive producers on the original series.

A legal procedural drama set in the same universe as the hit series, Suits, is reportedly in development.

Created by Aaron Korsh, Suits debuted on the USA Network in June 2011, running for nine seasons until September 2019. Set in the competitive landscape of corporate law in New York City, the story takes place within a fictional law firm, Pearson Hardman and later Pearson Specter, that specializes in high-stakes cases.

The central character in Suits, Harvey Specter (played by Gabriel Macht), is a charismatic, highly skilled lawyer with a reputation for being the best in the business. His work life takes an intriguing turn when he knowingly hires Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams), a young man with a photographic memory but no law degree.

The Suits offshoot will introduce fresh characters in a different setting, with Los Angeles tapped as the potential backdrop for the new workplace drama.

Mike’s lack of a law degree is a closely guarded secret, and this deception adds an element of tension and intrigue to the series. With Harvey’s help, Mike navigates the challenges of practicing law without a license while juggling his personal life and relationships. Each episode also features a new case or problem the law firm takes on, ranging from corporate disputes to ethical dilemmas.

Gina Torres in Suits

Suits strongly emphasized character development and the relationships between the lawyers, paralegals, and other staff at the firm. Jessica Pearson, played by Gina Torres, serves as the firm’s managing partner. Louis Litt, played by Rick Hoffman, adds comic relief and rivalry to the mix. The supporting cast includes Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane and Sarah Rafferty as Donna Paulsen.

Suits garnered a plethora of award nominations during its run, with particular recognition given to Gina Torres and Patrick J. Adams. Torres received two nominations for her outstanding supporting actress role and secured the Outstanding Performance in a Television Series accolade at the 2013 NHMC Impact Awards.

Patrick J. Adams earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Additionally, the Suits series, in its entirety, received two nominations for People’s Choice Awards. Following its conclusion, the series found a new home on streaming, where it found a home on platforms like Prime Video and Peacock for several years.

Suits On Netflix

However, in a relatively unassuming move in 2023, Netflix acquired the first eight seasons of Suits in a second-cycle non-exclusive deal, with each episode produced at a modest cost of $200K-$400K. These seasons were made available on Netflix while also being shared with Peacock. The series quickly grew in popularity, securing the number one overall finishes in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10.
