Ever since the fourth season of Stranger Things debuted earlier this summer, many of the series’ stars have become overnight sensations. English actor Joseph Quinn, for example, has seen his career take a new turn, primarily because of his fan-favorite character in the show, the late great Eddie Munson. Even though Eddie’s fate may be sealed with the conclusion of the fourth season, one of Quinn’s costars is also having a moment all her own. Stranger Things actor Maya Hawke has a new movie hitting Netflix in September, and the trailer has been released, which promises a lot of excitement from the upcoming dark comedy.

In the official trailer that debuted this week from Netflix, Stranger Things star Maya Hawke teams up with Riverdale actor Camila Mendes in Do Revenge. The trailer has amounted to almost 1 million views since it dropped on Netflix’s official YouTube channel yesterday. Promoted as a Hitchcockian comedy, Do Revenge is loosely based on the concept from the 1950s thriller Strangers on a Train, where the two principal characters use one another to kill someone close to them. In this most recent retelling of a similar story, it appears that Mendes and Hawke will be inflicting harm on each other’s bullies, something they can’t bring to do for themselves. According to The Hollywood ReporterDo Revenge will take elements from Strangers on a Train and mix them together with high school cliches that movies like Heathers and Promising Young Woman attempted to do within a dark comedy atmosphere.

Do Revenge looks to appeal to the dark sense of humor that fans of Stranger Things and Riverdale have come to expect from these two leads. As Stranger Things has provided an excellent platform for Maya Hawke to test her acting strengths in a supporting role, Do Revenge may be the first time she explodes onto the scene in a shared lead part. As the daughter of acting legends Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya Hawke has her work cut out for her, but she seems to be taking the experience of acting in stride. Entertainment Weekly reports that Hawke’s character of Eleanor will be presented as an alternative beta personality, while Mendes’ Drea is more of the popular alpha female in school.

The title of Netflix’s newest film is no minor accident, as Do Revenge looks to be a revenge movie at its finest. With two strong female leads, Collider reports that the film will be a striking examination of revenge porn, bullying, and rumor spreading that has become quite rampant in the world of high school teenage angst. Do Revenge may be about a couple of revenge-seeking protagonists, but the trailer suggests that the one thing all bullies should be afraid of is the work of teenage girls. Along with Stranger Things star Maya Hawke and Riverdale lead Camila Mendes, Do Revenge will costar Game of Thrones alumn Sophie Turner, Dash & Lily’s Austin Abrams, Eliza Bennett, 13 Reasons Why’s Alisha Boe, as well as Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss.
