The list of the different productions that the pandemic has delayed to date is pretty long but none of them has viewers waiting with bated breath like Stranger Things Season 4. Unlike its first two seasons, the Season 3 finale of the science-fiction horror series ended on a morbid note for most of its characters, with their futures balancing on a knife-edge. While fans have been more than eager for any update, any new information about the upcoming season has been few and far in between. But thankfully, there is one, a big one, at last!
Stranger Things Season 4 officially began production In February 2020 in Lithuania but in a few weeks, the shooting was halted due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. After being delayed by months, the filming finally resumed in September 2020 in Georgia. But even then, it had been “a slower process than usual” as shared by series star Gaten Matarazzo in January 2021. Fans were understandably worried that the upcoming season won’t be ready to debut in 2022 and will be delayed further. But series producer Shawn Levy has put all reservations to rest and disclosed that they will be wrapoing up the filming of Stranger Things Season 4 very soon.
In a chat with Collider, Levy also promised that by the time his upcoming film Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, releases i.e., on August 13, fans of the show will be getting a taste of Stranger Things Season 4 in the form of a new teaser. The first teaser of Season 4, released earlier this year, had amped up the excitement by leaps and bounds as it was revealed that the predictions have been true- David Harbour’s Hopper who seemingly died at the end of the Season 3 finale is actually alive but in captivity in a Russian prison. While it is indeed a little disappointing that we won’t be getting a full trailer anytime soon, an imminent wrap on the production means that Season 4 can still debut on Netflix in 2022.
Not much is known about Stranger Things Season 4 apart from the tidbits of information revealed by the creators and cast of the series. The first teaser had hinted that in Season 4 while Hopper faces dangers both human and supernatural, a “new horror” will arise in Hawkins that will force the Byers family and Eleven (who is yet to regain her powers) to return. Matarazzo had also shared with Us Weekly that while all seasons of Stranger Things have been scary, Season 4 is the scariest of them all.
The cast of Stranger Things Season 4 includes Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, and Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman. The latest addition to the cast includes Jamie Campbell Bower as Peter Ballard, Eduardo Franco as Argyle, and Joseph Quinn as Eddie Munson.
