Stranger Things Star Has Strong Feelings About The Series Finale
Stranger Things' Joe Keery says that the final season of the series will be "bittersweet" and full of endings.
The fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things is one of the most anticipated upcoming TV shows, and fans have been constantly theorizing about what could go down in the Upside Down. ComicBook.com reported on star Joe Keery’s recent German Comic Con appearance, where he summed up his feelings about Season 5 saying “I think everybody’s excited to start working again, but it’ll be like the first time of a lot of last things, as well,” adding “It’ll be very bittersweet.” It seems likely that not every character is going to make it through the season alive, but it looks like the Duffer Brothers are at least setting us up for a satisfying ending.
Stranger Things Season 5 will pick up where the previous season left off, with Vecna limping away defeated but not dead and the Upside Down seeping into Hawkins and the rest of the world. Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven also got her powers back, but Sadie Sink’s Max ended up in the hospital in a coma. There are a lot of threads for the Duffers to tie together, and that’s not even considering Joe Keery’s Steve, David Harbour’s Hopper, and the rest of the Hawkins crew.
One thing we do know about the final season, according to what the Duffers have said, is that there will be a heavy focus on Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers. We also know that the final season will take place entirely in the town of Hawkins. We also expect that cast members Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Winona Ryder, Charlie Heaton, Natalie Dyer, Maya Hawke, and Jamie Campbell Bower will reprise their roles in the upcoming season.
As of now, the official plot of Season 5 will remain shrouded in mystery, but just because this upcoming season is the finale doesn’t mean we won’t get more Stranger Things in the future. While there’s no way of knowing if cast members like Joe Keery or Millie Bobby Brown will be involved, it has been confirmed that there will be multiple spin-offs of the flagship series in the future. Most recently, an animated spin-off was announced that is being described as a Saturday morning cartoon.
Along with the animated Stranger Things spin-off, there is a live-action spin-off on the way, a rumored anime series, comics, and even a video game in the works. While Joe Keery might be feeling bittersweet about his time on the show ending, it seems like fans will be getting plenty of the Upside Down in the future. If the Duffer Brothers’ multi-year contract continues to bear fruit for Netflix, there may be no end in sight for the popular 80s-inspired franchise.
There’s no word yet on when we can expect to see the fifth season of Stranger Things on Netflix, but best guesses place the release date around late 2024 at the earliest. We’ll just have to wait until an official release date is announced to learn when we can see Joe Keery and the rest of the cast finish out the story. In the meantime, you can stream the previous four seasons on Netflix now.
