Fans of Stranger Things 4 were making deals with God this morning when usage overloads caused Netflix to crash, leaving thousands of hopeful viewers locked out of the anticipated final two episodes of the latest season. More popular than Kylie Jenner’s lip kit drops, fans were ready with their fingers on “play” when “Chapter Eight: Dear Papa” and “Chapter Nine: The Piggyback” hit the platform during the wee hours of July 1. Side note – things are back up and running now should you be in the mood to get your binge on.

To be fair, there was a lot hanging in the balance of the final two feature length episodes of Stranger Things 4. The first seven episodes left a lot of questions unanswered and even more character plotlines to follow than we had going into the fourth season after its three-year hiatus. The newest installment saw the rise of a new big bad, Vecna, who quickly climbed through the ranks of being the scariest thing we’ve seen to go into and come out of the Upside Down. We learned more about Eleven’s backstory and how she’s tied to One aka Vecna and got some shocking moments, and even a new resurgence on an old jam. All in all, the first few episodes of Season 4 delivered, thus making the mad rush for the final two episodes even more pertinent to not catch any spoilers that may have come from it.

After all, the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer aka the Duffer Brothers, have always said that the end of Stranger Things 4 may not be what fans are expecting. While every other season has given us a somewhat “happy” ending, or at least tied things together and provided us with a sense of hope moving forward, the show’s creators told us this wouldn’t be the case this time around. While other seasons have wrapped up those recent happenings, but have left audiences guessing with a little taste of a new evil awakening, it sounds like Season 5 will just be a continuation of Season 4, therefore leaving a lot of questions in its wake. From that, we can presume that Vecna – or at least part of him – will be hanging around in some facet heading into what’s been reported to be the show’s final season.

We’re also wondering what that will mean about the fate of several characters who now hang in the balance moving into the final two episodes of Stranger Things 4. Fans will remember the show’s third season ending with the supposed death of Jim Hopper (David Harbour). When he came back in Season 4, we all breathed a collective sigh of relief, but it sounds like we’ll have more serious deaths to reckon with as the show chugs along.

And chugging along it is. With Stranger Things 4 not only crushing records previously set on the streamer, but also crashing the platform itself, there’s no telling where the sci-fi epic will land in history. To avoid the spoilers, we highly suggest turning off your Twitter notifications (take it from me…) for now and jumping onto Netflix at your earliest convenience to see how Season 4 plays out.
