Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Trailer Takes You To Such Great Heights
The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 trailer has dropped and it looks amazing.
Paramount dropped the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer and, true to the show’s name, it looks like the USS Enterprise crew will be exploring a lot of strange worlds. There’s a lot going on in the bombastic and beautifully shot trailer, which is perfectly scored by a rousing orchestral arrangement of The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights.” Check out the trailer for the upcoming second season below:
The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer quickly brings us back into the swing of things with prominent appearances by Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck’s Spock, and Rebecca Romijin’s Number One. Other highlights from the trailer include Spock throwing back a drink with a Klingon, the return of Paul Wesley’s Captain James T Kirk, and Carol Kane making her debut as the new engineer Pelia. We even get to see Spock take the captain’s chair on the Enterprise bridge and announce that he “would like the ship to go…now.”
The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer shows that Season 2 of the series should bring that same mix of episodic storytelling and crew dynamics that fans loved so much about the first season. Out of the new Trek shows, Strange New Worlds has been consistently delivering an experience similar to Star Trek: The Original Series to fans. While the other shows took a while to find their footing, with some people feeling like some of them never found their footing, this series has been appreciated since the beginning.
Unfortunately, the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer is still holding some cards to the chest, as we didn’t get to catch a glimpse of the big upcoming crossover episode with the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks series. The episodic nature of Strange New Worlds allows it to veer off course more naturally than the more serialized series, making a crossover with the comedic Lower Decks series an easier sell. Not only will the episode feature Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid bringing their Lower Decks characters to live-action for the first time, but there will also be animated portions of the episode as well.
Along with characters like Pike, Spock, Kirk, and Number One, and the new character Pelia the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer also showcased plenty of the other returning faces to the series. Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, and Babs Olusanmokun will all be returning to reprise their roles from the first season. The second season is also set to explore Kirk’s relationship with his brother George Samuel “Sam” Kirk, played by Dan Jeannotte.
Watching the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer on repeat should be a good way to pass the time until we can finally see the series return on June 15. Otherwise, you can look forward to seeing the series finale of Star Trek: Picard hit CBS All Access and Paramount+ tomorrow. Star Trek: Discovery is also set to return for its final season in 2024, and Paramount just announced that Michelle Yeoh will be returning for a special movie event titled Star Trek: Section 31.
