Star Trek Fans Rejoice, Strange New Worlds Back In Production
Filming for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 has officially begun in Toronto. Production was initially scheduled to start in May but was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Fortunately, the USS Enterprise, led by Captain Christopher Pike, is now ready to engage warp speed, as revealed by producing director Chris Fisher and co-executive producer and writer Davy Perez.
Day 1 Of Filming Commences
“Day 1, Episode 301… shenanigans in space!” Fisher wrote on Instagram, alongside a detailed shot of a console on the Starship Enterprise’s bridge. The image also features caution tape and a sign that says, “Caution Loaded Pyro.” Perez posted a picture of his director’s chair from the set, accompanied by the caption, “Strange New Worlds Season 3 Day 1 of shooting. Time to get back in the chair.”
10 Episodes To Film
The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will include 10 episodes, with production expected to extend until June 2024. Each episode requires approximately 10 days to film, and the production team is aiming to wrap up the premiere before the Christmas and New Year’s break. Season 3 is poised to address the cliffhanger ending of Season 2.
Where Season 2 Left Off
In the final moments of the Strange New Worlds Season 2 finale, Captain Pike was ordered to retreat, leaving behind members of the USS Enterprise crew who were abducted by the Gorn. Meanwhile, Captain Marie Batel was seen dying from a life-threatening infection. Season 2 garnered significant viewership and critical acclaim, leading to the confirmation of a third season in March 2023.
Season 3’s Release
Given the substantial post-production work required for the episodes, Strange New Worlds Season 3 will probably only hit screens in 2025. Paramount+ is expected to launch a large-scale promotional campaign for the season. Since Star Trek: Picard ended, and with Star Trek: Discovery concluding with its fifth season in 2024, Strange New Worlds will be the flagship series within the existing Star Trek lineup.
