There are very few comedians currently working today that have had lengthy careers in the spotlight like actor Steve Martin. A Saturday Night Live staple and writer of hit television shows that broke the mold like The Smothers Brothers, Martin has enjoyed decades worth of success on stage, film, and television. He is the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, which has seen many supporting roles and lead parts that have helped elevate the comedian as a well-decorated actor and performer. Now, it appears that Steve Martin is receiving the honor of a lifetime through a documentary made about his life.

According to a report by The Wrap, Steve Martin will be the star of a feature-length documentary that will arrive on Apple TV+. The two-part movie is set to be directed by Morgan Neville, an Academy Award-winner mostly known for helming the popular film Won’t You Be My Neighbor, the documentary about Fred Rogers and his rise to fame as an iconic children’s television host. The Steve Martin documentary will examine Martin’s personal life and his career as a standup comedian, writer, and talented actor and director. No other information has been provided thus far on the two-part film, including its title.

The news that Steve Martin is getting the documentary treatment should come as no surprise to anyone that has followed his storied career. Starting out as a writer on the culturally iconic The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, Martin enjoyed a lengthy stint in the 1970s as a standup comic in national comedy tours. He has been one of the most prolific hosts of Saturday Night Live over the course of several decades and frequently collaborates with fellow comedian Martin Short. To this day, the two have found success in continuous comedy tours and albums, as well as starring on the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building alongside Selena Gomez. For his work on that show, Martin has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series as a producer, as well as Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Only Murders in the Building is a bonafide hit, with Rotten Tomatoes reflecting a rating of 100% on its Tomatometer.

But the buck doesn’t stop there regarding Steve Martin’s accomplishments, which have seen the actor host the Academy Awards numerous times. While never nominated for an Academy Award during his career, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences granted Martin with an Honorary Academy Award in 2013. Next to his several Emmy Awards and five Grammy Awards, Martin is very close to earning an EGOT for his lifetime of work. To date, he has been nominated for the Tony Award twice, and Playbill reported that he received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2005. The second season of Only Murders in the Building is currently airing on Hulu, and has been renewed for a third season.
