At long last Salem’s Lot has a release date and a trailer for fans to enjoy. The Stephen King adaptation has been in the works since 2019, with fans wanting a proper adaptation for much longer. The wait is finally almost over, with the trailer revealing a release date of October 3 and giving fans their first look at the vampire movie.

The trailer does a great job of establishing both the basic plot of Salem’s Lot and its creepy atmosphere. It introduces the movie’s protagonist, Ben, a writer returning to his childhood hometown for research purposes. It also shows off the movie’s vampire antagonists and the menacing aura they’ve brought to the small town.

…the trailer shows plenty of shots of Salem’s Lot itself, with a sharp contrast between the idyllic small town in the day and the sinister, mist-filled nightmare it becomes at night.

At the very least, the trailer sells the movie visually, with both the monster effects and the setting looking appropriately horrific. Surprisingly, the trailer doesn’t shy away from showing off the vampires, and the special effects all look great. Just as important, the trailer shows plenty of shots of Salem’s Lot itself, with a sharp contrast between the idyllic small town in the day and the sinister, mist-filled nightmare it becomes at night.

Naturally, the trailer also shows off some of  Salem’s Lot’s cast. Familiar faces like Lewis Pullman and Mackenzie Leigh appear prominently, framed as the movie’s leads. Supporting cast members like John Benjamine Hickey and child actor Jordan Preston Carter were also shown extensively, implying their characters will be prominent in the film.

Anticipation is high for Salem’s Lot, which will bring the beloved 1975 Stephen King novel to life.

Anticipation is high for Salem’s Lot, which will bring the beloved 1975 Stephen King novel to life. The novel is one of King’s most popular works and the author’s personal favorite, establishing a setting King would return to in future stories. Fans have wanted a film adaptation of the book for decades due to the success of other adaptions like The Shining and It.

While the film adaptation has taken nearly half a century, Salem’s Lot has been adapted for TV twice to tide fans over. The 1978 two-part TV movie directed by horror legend Tobe Hooper was well-received and has built a cult following over the years. Another mini-series starring Rob Lowe was made in 2004 but failed to impress fans or critics.

The long wait is finally coming to an end, with Salem’s Lot coming to Max just in time for the Halloween season.

Despite the pair of mini-series adaptations, fans have continued to call for a film adaptation with the production quality and budget to do the story justice. In 2019, New Line Cinema finally fulfilled that wish and announced a theatrical film adaptation of Salem’s Lot with a release date of September 9, 2022. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic, SAG-AFTRA strike, and Warner Brothers restructuring each pushed that date further and further back

The long wait is finally coming to an end, with Salem’s Lot coming to Max just in time for the Halloween season. It remains to be seen if the multiple years of waiting and hype-building will work for or against the movie, but if the trailer is anything to go by it could be a hit for horror fans. The vampire movie is coming to Max on October 3, hopefully, the wait will be worth it.
