With the huge success of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus, Star Wars is going all in on producing new shows for television. So what’s the next Star Wars television show? Below is a complete guide to every upcoming Star Wars TV show currently on the way.
The Return Of Darth Maul
One of the biggest rumors swirling around the development of Disney’s Star Wars TV show plans is the involvement of Darth Maul. It seems they’re intent on bringing back the fan favorite prequel character in one way or another. It’s possible he could show up in The Mandalorian or on the Obi-Wan series.
Originally the plan had been for Ray Park to return as the character he made famous in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but now things are changing. Thanks to a series of controversies involving Ray Park Disney may be looking at recasting the infamous Sith.
It started with a porongraphic video posted by Ray Park on his Instagram page, involving a sexual act between he and his wife. Park now claims his Instagram page was hacked but that hasn’t killed the controversy. Things started to spin out of control when someone named Sienna (the name of Ray Park’s daughter) posted on his page making accusations of child abuse.
Everything was quickly deleted from Ray Park’s page, but people saw it. Fans are accusing him of posting the video as revenge porn against his wife, and are further accusing him of both spousal abuse and child abuse.
Ray Park’s wife has now issued the following statement…
It’s not clear what’s really going on here and there’s no evidence for any of this but Disney is notoriously quick to distance their brand from controversy like this. So LRM Online says their sources tell them the studio is already looking at their options to recast Darth Maul.
RUMORED STAR WARS TV SHOWS
Star Wars: The Calrissian Chronicles
Solo: A Star Wars story won’t get a sequel movie as Disney had originally planned, but it is getting a spinoff series focused around Lando Calrissian. And the latest word is that Donald Glover is in negotiations (and close to signing) to return as Lando.
Glover was one of the highlights of the Solo movie and he’s a perfect fit as the character. If Disney’s smart, they’ll also figure out some way for him to be flying around in the Millennium Falcon.
We don’t know what the official title of the show will be yet, but The Calrissian Chronicles is one of the possible titles being floated around. More on this as it develops.
Qi’ra | Rumored Development
Solo: A Star Wars Story has been the red-headed step-child of the Star Wars universe ever since its release. It underperformed at the box office and with critics and Disney hasn’t been willing to commit to making any more of it. But fans have been vocal and active in asking for a sequel, using the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen to let Disney know they want more. And now it sounds like they may be getting more.
FandomWire says a Solo-based spinoff series is already in development at Disney. The series wouldn’t be about Han Solo but it would star his ex-girlfriend Qi’ra and have her teamed up with, of all people, Darth Maul. They claim the series is currently being called Qi’ra and that Emilia Clarke will return as the character she played in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Other Rumored Star Wars TV Shows On Disney Plus
Depending on how Star Wars continues to perform there are sure to be other Star Wars series. Rumors have been swirling hinting that Disney might be considering a series based on Force Awakens characters Finn and Poe Dameron. Those are all just rumors for now and whether they come to Disney Plus will likely depend on how future Star Wars shows and movies continue to perform for Disney.
CONFIRMED SHOWS ON THE WAY
LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special
Disney is working on LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and it’s headed for Disney +. It’ll be the first Star Wars story set after the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It’ll star the characters of Rise of Skywalker, but in LEGO form of course, on an adventure Chewbacca’s homeworld of Kashyyyk. There they’ll celebrate the annual Wookie holiday of the Day of Life.
If that plot sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same plot used in the now infamously horrible 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. This time, instead of starring Luke, Han, and Leia it’ll star LEGO versions of Rey, Finn, and Poe. Also they’re promising to take another stab at making Rose Tico happen by giving us an animated LEGO version of her too.
During the course of the special Rey will end up in a Jedi Temple where she’ll be propelled via the Force across multiple Star Wars timelines, encountering iconic heroes and villains from the past like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Obi Wan Kenobi.
The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special arrives on Life Day, which in case you’re not a Wookie and didn’t know, is November 17, 2020. It’s sure to be better than the last Star Wars Holiday Special. Everything is.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Lucasfilm has officially announced they’re beginning production on a Star Wars TV show called The Bad Batch. This animated series will be a spinoff of Star Wars: The Clone Wars which follows an elite group of four experimental clones (called Clone Force 99) introduced in the finale season of Clone Wars. The Bad Batch will follow that group as they explore the galaxy and team up with mercenaries.
The really great news here is that Dave Filoni will Executive Produce the show. He was the mind behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars and he has also worked on The Mandalorian. Rumor has it that he may also be working on a live action Star Wars show for Disney, but this has been announced first.
Expect to see The Bad Batch on Disney Plus in 2021.
