First Look At Young Yoda In Star Wars: The High Republic

A young Yoda? We’ve already gotten baby Yoda so why not another version of the iconic Jedi master? Star Wars: The High Republic is gearing up to release in 2021 and they’ve released a brand new piece of concept art for the wide-reaching series.

The little guy is looking pretty good! The upcoming comic book Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures by Daniel José Olde will introduce us to this young Yoda – he’s 200 years younger than his original trilogy self – but don’t expect him to be some cocky hotshot Jedi. As described to StarWars.com:
“While he’s already a respected member of the Jedi Council at this point, we meet Yoda in IDW’s The High Republic Adventures series doing what he loves best: looking out for the young folks — in this case, a group of Padawans traveling around the galaxy to learn the ways of the Jedi with a hands-on approach. The Force study abroad program, basically.”
That isn’t the only look we’ve got at this younger Yoda. Another piece of concept art shows off the robes he wears when he’s chilling at the Jedi temple:
Troy Alders, art director at Lucasfilm, commented on young Yoda’s new look as a reflection of this “special time of the golden age of the Jedi.”
“Dressing Yoda for this epic time period, and creating designs adorned with gold, using beautiful fabrics and details, is something that he and all of the Jedi very much deserve, and the end result, I think, is gorgeous, and really celebrates this exciting and visually rich, gilded era.”
You might be asking yourself, “What exactly is Star Wars: The High Republic?” It is a multimedia project consisting of comic books and print novels that will expand the timeline of the Star Wars universe. The events of Star Wars: The High Republic will take place in the High Republic Era, two centuries before the events we see in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. It is a time when the Republic is thriving and the Jedi are equally prosperous and spread throughout the galaxy.
However, the sprawling project was put on hold after the COVID-19 pandemic derailed everything. Star Wars: The High Republic was announced back in February but little else has progressed with the project. Exactly how prominent a role this young Yoda will play remains to be seen. Still, it should be exciting to see more adventures of the Jedi master.
It is likely that Disney is trying out different eras in Star Wars’ history to see what fans respond to. If young Yoda takes off in Star Wars: The High Republic, you can bet they will capitalize on his popularity. Just look at how they took full advantage of the meme-crazy baby Yoda. The adventures of young Yoda could be one of the highlights of Star Wars: The High Republic, so it’s very cool to get this first look at the youthful Jedi master. We are looking forward to even more first looks from this exciting new Star Wars project.
