Star Wars Is Returning To Theaters, But Not With A Movie
Star Wars fans have already been enjoying the latest foray into the galaxy far, far away with the hit Disney+ series Ahsoka, which has received marvelous reviews, especially compared to recent Star Wars outings. Now, according to StarWars.com, the latest episode in the series will be available to view in theaters. The midseason fan celebration event is set to arrive on September 12, with a limited run that promises to see Ahsoka face off against her former master, Anakin Skywalker.
The upcoming fifth episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka will premiere in theaters worldwide before it’s available on Disney+.
The theatrical event for Star Wars: Ahsoka will be available to fans across the United States in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington DC. The episode will also be screened in a number of international markets, including London, Bangkok, and São Paulo. The official fan site allows Star Wars fans to reserve seating for the upcoming event free of charge.
The midseason poster for Star Wars: Ahsoka features the titular herostanding with her lightsabers ignited for battle as Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker peers over her shoulder like the ghost of her mysterious past. Fan favorite character, Sabine Wren, stands at the center, flanked by Ahsoka and a scattering of important figures in the series, including Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati, Hera Syndulla, and Chopper.
Episode 5 marks the first since the pilot to be directed by Dave Filoni, who wrote each of the season’s eight episodes. Star Wars: Ahsoka has not yet been renewed for a second season, though many fans are expecting the series to get renewed due to the intense level of fanfare surrounding the project, especially in comparison to the milquetoast responses that previous Star Wars projects such as The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian Season 3 have received.
This speculation only seems to be confirmed by Disney’s decision to give the mid-season episode its own theatrical release, proving that the series is a worthwhile investment.

This event also leaves many fans to wonder just how massive the upcoming finale of Star Wars: Ahsoka could be, considering the great lengths Disney is going to for episode five. The finale is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 3 and will be directed by The Mandalorian writer/director Rick Famuyiwa. Though Disney executives have recently expressed sentiments that they would be scaling back Star Wars projects, it seems clear that the media conglomerate has placed great faith in Dave Filoni’s ongoing projects.

In addition to Star Wars: Ahsoka, Filoni is expected to bring a number of massive projects to market, including Tales of the Jedi, Skeleton Crew, and an untitled feature film. In addition to his previous work on Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and many others, these projects make Filoni one of the largest figures in the modern Star Wars franchise, perhaps second only to Jon Favreau.
