Star Wars Movie Gets Netflix Sci-Fi Writer
Shawn Levy has nabbed a writer for his Star Wars movie. According to noted leaker Jeff Sneider, Levy’s long-time collaborator Jonathan Tropper has signed on to write the script. Levy’s Star Wars film was first announced in November 2022, but he’s been busy with another Disney project with this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Director Of The Adam Project
Before teaming up for this Star Wars movie, Levy and Tropper have worked on the films This Is Where I Leave You, Kodachrome, and, most recently, The Adam Project for Netflix. The latter starred Ryan Reynolds and became Netflix’s third-biggest original film to date. It also gives the best indication of what their Star Wars collaboration might be like, as the well-reviewed film was sort of a throwback to the adventure films of the 80s.
The Adam Project even featured a weapon that was essentially a lightsaber, though Levy said it technically wasn’t one because of copyright. Of course, now Shawn Levy is free to use lightsabers as he wishes in his upcoming Star Wars movie. However, we still don’t know what Levy’s film will be about or if the Jedi will even play a big role in it.
Already In The Disney Family
In any case, it seems clear that Disney wants to hold onto Levy for the near future. In addition to giving him a Star Wars movie and his upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, he’s also reportedly being considered for an Avengers film. As for Tropper, he’s best known as the creator of shows like Banshee and Warrior, along with his various projects with Levy.
More Star Wars Movies On The Way
Getting a writer on board is a big step for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie, which has sort of been in a news limbo since it was announced. While we don’t know anything else about it, and the release window hasn’t even been announced, we know it’ll come after the upcoming Star Wars film Grogu & The Mandalorian. The Jon Favreau-directed film will continue the story of the ongoing The Mandalorian TV series and be the first Star Wars film in theaters since 2019’s critically panned The Rise of Skywalker.
Moving The Saga Forward
Grogu & The Mandalorian is set to hit screens in 2026, and the Star Wars movie after that will likely be the untitled Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed film that stars Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey Skywalker. That movie will see Rey attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. In the meantime, Disney and LucasFilm have kept the franchise going on Disney+ with TV shows like Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, Andor, and, most recently, The Acolyte.
No Word On What Era Shawn Levy Gets TO Play In
Shawn Levy also isn’t the only director with an undated upcoming Star Wars movie. Dave Filoni also has a New Republic film that will tie together the events of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. Meanwhile, Taika Waititi and James Mangold also have upcoming films that don’t have a release date.
With Shawn Levy’s plate being pretty full, we’ll have to wait for more news about his Star Wars movie. If you want to catch up with the current Star Wars projects, you can see The Acolyte on Disney+. You can catch Levy’s next project, Deadpool & Wolverine, in theaters on July 26.
