John Boyega Returning To Star Wars?
Since making his debut in The Force Awakens, John Boyega has become a fan-favorite member of the Star Wars franchise, and the actor now says he would return to a galaxy far, far away. A true fan, his role Finn, a stormtrooper with a conscience, fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a part of the George Lucas-created universe that has since spanned a multitude of television shows and movies.
“But I’m open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached and a terrific director. So yeah, I’m open to all opportunities.”

Unfortunately for the star and his fandom, Boyega’s screen time greatly diminished following the first film, something that he’s previously voiced his upset with. But now, a few years down the line, Boyega says that he would consider returning to the fold should the opportunity present itself.
During an interview with TechRadar, John Boyega said that his frustration surrounding his character’s role in Star Wars was something that “were the subject of that particular project.”
Explaining what it would take to have Finn back on the big screen, Boyega said, “I’m open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached and a terrific director,” adding that he would be into “all opportunities” should the stars align and tick all his boxes.
For John Boyega, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker were a major letdown for him and fellow Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran. While he knows that Disney had the foresight for what would happen between Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, he says that they completely dropped the ball for him and Tran.
Coming straight for the studio behind the project, Boyega said that he wasn’t “exposing anything” by speaking up and addressing the “nuance” that Ridley and Driver’s fully-developed characters received – something that was lacking for Finn and Rose (Tran).

“Daisy knows this. Adam knows this,” John Boyega says of his Star Wars co-stars, understanding that they had better-scripted parts than their peers.
While he acknowledges that any time an actor takes on a new job, there will be certain things that they don’t like or disagree with, he addressed Disney by warning them to never again, “bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side.”
While he’ll certainly always cherish his time in the films, which put him face-to-face with his childhood heroes – Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill, John Boyega will always have a piece of him upset by Finn’s Star Wars outcome. With this in mind, it’s perhaps a building block for the actor to return to the franchise in one way or another should the opportunity present itself.
“[But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up.”

And, with so many side projects coming out surrounding the galaxies and planets made famous by the franchise, there’s a good chance that we could spot John Boyega’s Finn in one Star Wars spin-off or another. The last year alone introduced audiences to shows including Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi with projects including The Acolyte, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, a series about Lando Calrissian, and more on the way, there could be an opportunity to sneak Finn into a storyline.
Beyond the TV projects that could reintroduce audiences to John Boyega’s Finn, there are also a handful of Star Wars-centered films on the way. Right now, we know that Thor: Love and Thunder and What We Do In the Shadows director Taika Waititi is helming a project in the George Lucas-created universe.
Furthermore, there’s another feature-length film coming from Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director, James Mangold, with Ms. Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and The Mandalorian’s Dave Filoni also hard at work developing Star Wars movies. With his latest comments, there’s always a chance that the They Cloned Tyrone star will reprise his role and fulfill Finn’s destiny – giving the character the story he’s always deserved.
