New Star Wars Movie Starts Out With Daisy Ridley Having Ruined Everything?
An upcoming Star Wars movie will feature Daisy Ridley's Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order.
The recent Star Wars Celebration revealed a ton of new trailers and upcoming projects coming from a galaxy far, far away. One of the biggest reveals was that Daisey Ridley would be returning to lead her own movie after The Rise of Skywalker in the timeline. IGN recently did an interview with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, where she revealed that the movie takes place 15 years after the previous film and that Rey is dealing with the Jedis being in “disarray.”
Specifically, Kennedy’s comments about the new Star Wars film were, “Well, we’re 15 years out from ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ so we’re post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray,” adding, “She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.” It sounds like Daisey Ridley’s Rey is having some trouble getting the Jedi organized and figuring out what their place will be in the newly formed galaxy. It’s not too surprising, considering she’s basically starting from scratch.
We first saw the Jedi Order decimated at the end of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and then Luke Skywalker tried to rebuild it in the events after Return of the Jedi. That didn’t end up going too well, and he ended up accidentally creating another big villain in the franchise. At the very least, it does seem like Daisey Ridley’s Rey’s attempts might go a little better than her previous mentor.
Speaking of Luke, fans have also wondered if Mark Hamill would return to the Star Wars universe once again to play his most famous role. Of course, we saw Luke sacrifice himself at the end of The Last Jedi, but there’s always the potential of him coming back as a Force Ghost. Some guidance from Luke might be just what Daisey Ridley’s Rey needs to wrangle the burgeoning Jedi Order.
Considering we’ve already seen one character fail at revitalizing the Jedi Order, it seems pretty unlikely that the Daisey Ridley movie would retread that same ground. We’ll likely see Rey struggling at the beginning of the movie but figuring out a way that unites the Jedi without making the mistakes of previous generations. It’ll be interesting to see how that all plays out.
The Star Wars Daisey Ridley movie is fairly scant on plot details otherwise, but we do know that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) will be directing the film and that it will be written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). Reportedly, the script is getting close to being finished. We also don’t have an official release window for the film yet.
Along with the Star Wars movie starring Daisey Ridley, we know there are at least four other films planned for the future. Dave Filoni, who has built out a lot of the TV side of the franchise, will be directing a film about the New Republic, and that ties together plots from shows like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. We also know that James Mangold is directing a movie about the dawn of the Force that takes place 25,000 years before the original trilogy.
Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy are both slated to develop Star Wars films, but details about those films remain under wraps. In the meantime, fans can look forward to hearing more about the Daisey Ridley film in the near future. We’ll keep you updated on this and other projects from the franchise.
