The Ahsoka Ending Explained And What It Means For Star Wars Streaming
The Ahsoka finale ended on one big cliffhanger for all of the characters involved. Ahsoka and Sabine Wren were stranded in a strange universe with no way home, while Thrawn returned to the main Star Wars universe, ready to raise some hell. Rather than giving any meaningful answers, the finale only raised questions, questions that practically guarantee an Ahsoka Season 2.

Ahsoka‘s ending was basically one big Uno Reverse card for all of the major Star Wars players here. Everyone who spent the bulk of the season searching for a way to reach another galaxy is now stranded there, while the two characters stuck on Peridea for years—Grand Admiral Thrawn and fledgling Jedi Ezra Bridger—finally made it back home.
Ahsoka and Sabine’s Star Wars story is pretty straightforward. After failing to stop Thrawn, the two rebels have taken up with the insectoid natives, the Noti, while they try and figure out a way back to the main Star Wars galaxy. Luckily, this will give Ahsoka plenty of time to train Sabine now that the Mandalorian finally succeeded in manifesting a connection to the Force.
Baylan Skoll’s Ahsoka journey found its ending with the fallen Jedi standing atop a giant statue of the Father
Meanwhile, Baylan Skoll’s Ahsoka journey found its ending with the fallen Jedi standing atop a giant statue of the Father—one of Star War’s Mortis gods—and well on his way to finding whatever it is that has been calling to him.
Our guess is that it may be the Mortis gods themself or possibly something more sinister like Abeloth, the Bringer of Chaos—the most terrifying entity in Star Wars Legends continuity. With Baylan now searching for answers instead of giving them, his former apprentice Shin Hati was forced to fend for herself and ended up seeking refuge in a camp of bandits.
Two characters that had a positive 180-degree turn were Thrawn and Ezra. The two Rebels alumni finished out their Ahsoka run by ending up back in their home galaxy. Ezra was greeted by a shocked—but happy—Hera Syndulla and a handful of New Republic troops, while Thrawn was last seen en route to the planet Dathomir.
The Grand Admiral was on his way, no doubt, to plan some evil scheme to help the Empire rise again with the Nightsister’s help.
The only Star Wars character in the Ahsoka finale to get a definitive ending was Morgan Elsbeth. After finally being made a top-tier Nightsister and given a sick sword covered in green flames, she was killed by Ahsoka Tano in one final duel.
The green fire blade was known as the Sword of Talzin and first appeared in The Clone Wars. Upon defeating Elsbeth, Ahsoka presumably kept the sword for her own.
What all of this means for Star Wars going forward, specifically when it comes to the Disney+ streaming shows, is that fans are going to need something to bridge the gap between the Ahsoka ending and Dave Filoni’s upcoming Mando-Verse film. The reason we think Lucasfilm will go with another streaming project to tie things up before the film is twofold.
For one thing, without at least one more Star Wars series set after the events of Ahsoka, Filoni is going to have to spend a good chunk of his movie explaining how Ahsoka and Sabine get off Peridea, whether Shin joins them or not, and what exactly Baylan finds, if anything, before getting to the good part where Thrawn wages a new war against the New Republic.
It would make far more sense to have another season of Ahsoka or The Mandalorian first in order to properly get all the pieces in place
It would make far more sense to have another season of Ahsoka or The Mandalorian first in order to properly get all the pieces in place before the next big screen outing. Especially when it comes to Shin Hati—her character’s struggle to find her place without Baylan and whether it will drive her toward the light and Ahsoka is easily worthy of its own series.
The other reason to have another Disney+ Star Wars series following the Ahsoka ending is that if Baylan Skoll does find Ableoth—or a similar entity—on Peridea, it will most likely be a big threat to the galaxy, big enough to overshadow Thrawn if left for the movie.
The Grand Admiral left Peridea with scores of what looked like coffins of some sort, most likely so he could have the Nightsisters make him a zombie army like the one that Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra fought in the finale. Zombie soldiers and a tactical military genius are enough of a threat for the New Republic to deal with in Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Mando-Verse flick without having to contend with some sort of dark-side demon as well.
Whether the events of the Ahsoka ending will lead into Ahsoka Season 2, carry into the next season of The Mandalorian, or spawn a brand new Star Wars series, one thing is for sure. Ahsoka ended on a cliffhanger that Dave Filoni’s upcoming Mando-Verse movie shouldn’t be burdened with resolving.
