The Star Trek: Voyager documentary, titled To the Journey—Looking back at Star Trek: Voyager, is finally nearing completion, and backers—those who have financially supported the production during its Indiegogo campaign—can expect backer screenings to begin in November.

Production Ends Soon

The team behind the Star Trek: Voyager documentary managed to raise a record-breaking $1.2 million back in 2021, which allowed them to pursue the project to its fruition.

The overall production is expected to conclude in October, nearly three years after the team behind the documentary started filming various interviews with the series’ stars, gathering archival footage, and piecing the entire story behind Star Trek: Voyager together.

The update about the project’s coming release date was released to the backers just recently.

Nothing Set In Stone

Joseph Kornbrodt, the producer and editor of the Star Trek: Voyager documentary, stated that the filming had concluded in the last days of July this year and that the team has turned their focus to the project’s post-production.

It’s worth mentioning, however, that this isn’t set in stone, as there can always be unexpected blips that could require extra time to deal with.

Still, the plans for the premiere are set in motion; David Zappone, the documentary’s director, shared that the final product should premiere for backers in London, New York, and Lon Angeles in the first half of November.

Backers Won’t Get The Final Cut

With that said, though Star Trek: Voyager documentary backers have the honor of receiving the first look, they’re not receiving the final product. Zaponne noted that the backer premiere won’t show the final cut of the movie, which is planned for a DVD and Blu-ray release in Spring 2025, with an additional 2 hours of bonus features.

This format is similar to that of What We Left Behind—Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—the documentary about 1993’s DS9 series—which was released in 2018.

Ordering The Doc

For those who aren’t backers but are still interested in watching the Star Trek: Voyager documentary once it releases, you can keep up with the project updates by visiting its website, where you can also pre-order both the DVD and the Blu-ray editions of the movie.

There are also plenty of other ways to keep up with the project, such as various social media platforms that offer regular updates regarding the progress of the documentary. The exact premiere date for backers is most likely going to be a widespread announcement on the website and social media.

Voyager’s Legacy

Star Trek: Voyager documentary will detail the making of Star Trek: Voyager, the fifth series in the Star Trek franchise, that follows the space adventures of a starship vessel, Voyager, and its crew, as they get stranded in the Delta Quadrant, 75,000 light years away from Earth.

The series doesn’t get the attention it deserves, but it’s still one of the more successful Star Trek installments and continues to find ways to get new life in Paramount’s expanding universe—like Kate Mulgrew‘s Captain appearing in Star Trek: Prodigy.
