A New Star Trek Series Has Just Been Announced
The series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is now in the works from executive producer Alex Kurtzman.
Paramount+ has announced a brand new Star Trek series. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy chronicles the adventures of a fresh class of cadets as they pursue a shared dream. Under the tutelage of their instructors, they discover what it means to be a Starfleet officer while navigating relationships, rivalries, and a dangerous enemy that threatens the Academy and the Federation.
“Admission is now open to Starfleet Academy! For the first time in over a century, our campus will be re-opened to admit individuals a minimum of 16 Earth years (or species equivalent) who dream of exceeding their physical, mental, and spiritual limits, who value friendship, camaraderie, honor, and devotion to a cause greater than themselves,” the Star Trek series Twitter announcement said.
“The coursework will be rigorous, the instructors among the brightest in their respective fields. Those accepted will live and study side-by-side with the most diverse population of students ever admitted. We encourage all who share our dreams, goals, and values to join a new generation of visionary cadets as they take their first steps toward creating a bright future for us all,” the post continued.
The new Star Trek series is produced by CBS Studios and will begin production in 2024. The first episode will be written by Gaia Violo, with Alex Kurtzman serving as executive producer. He will also handle showrunner duties alongside Noga Landau. Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Jenny Lumet, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber also executive produce the project.
Speaking about the new Star Trek series, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Data at Paramount’s Streaming division, Domenic DiMeglio, said the studio is excited to bring fans a new generation of Starfleet officers as they navigate the rigors of the Academy. “This all-new original series will serve as a fantastic addition to the franchise and Paramount+,” he said via Deadline.
The upcoming Star Trek series aims to attract a new generation of viewers and long-time fans to the next installment in the franchise. President of CBS Studios, David Stapf, said Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau’s unique vision pays homage to the core principles of what Star Trek has always stood for. Only this time, it will be through the eyes of a new batch of Starfleet leaders.
