Star Trek Bringing Together Two Of Its Greatest Captains For The First Time
According to ComicBook.com, IDW publishing will be bringing together Captain Benjamin Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Captain Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager for the first time ever. The historic meeting of the two legendary captains occurs in Star Trek #13, which publishes this week. The issue is the beginning of a new story arc called “A Savage World of Glass and Bone,” which follows the previous storyline, the crossover event “Day of Blood.”
Star Trek #13 is written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing with art by Marcus To, color by Lee Loughridge, and lettering by Clayton Cowles. In the preview made available by IDW Publishing, The story begins with Captain Sisko, who is being honored by Starfleet for his career and receives an invitation requiring him to be present at the event being held in his honor. There, he meets Kathryn Janeway, who has become a Starfleet vice admiral.
IDW’s Star Trek #13 will feature the first meeting between Captain Benjamin Sisko and Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway.
During their conversation at the event, Janeway lets Sisko know she’s not only aware of his work but also quite impressed with it. One could only be impressed with a Starfleet officer who has intervened to bring an end to a coup on the Klingon homeworld of Qo’noS, not to mention becoming something of an ambassador to species that exist outside of time like the Prophets.
This is especially noteworthy to Janeway because he has done it all without getting any approval from Starfleet brass, which she remarks is, in Starfleet, what they call “a hero.”
The new storyline, “A Savage World of Glass and Bone,” follows Sisko in command of the USS Theseus, which comes into contact with the Tzenkethi Coalition when traveling into an area of space they control.
Though we have never seen the Tzenkethi on screen, Sisko has dealt with them previously, during their conflict with Starfleet before he was stationed at Deep Space Nine. The Tzenkethi have only been seen by fans in Star Trek Online, meaning this might be the first opportunity we will have to see this species outside of the Star Trek video game universe.
This storyline might also offer some insight into Benjamin Sisko’s life and service in Starfleet before we met him at the beginning of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His mission in this story is to stop the Tzenkethi Coalition from unleashing their biggest fleet yet, which would be a terrible threat to the galaxy.
Though we have never seen the Tzenkethi on screen, Sisko has dealt with them previously, during their conflict with Starfleet before he was stationed at Deep Space Nine.
The xenophobic species of “reptilian lizard birds” has been victorious in two previous battles with Starfleet, and their vicious cunning presents a formidable challenge, especially as Sisko will be facing them on their mysterious home planet.
You can see the beginnings of this epic story and the historic meeting between these two legendary captains in Star Trek #13 when it hits shelves on October 25th.
