Star Trek & Galaxy Quest Official Crossover Revealed In Video
Galaxy Quest is one of the most beloved sci-fi parodies/homages out there, and now it’s teaming up with one of the franchises that inspired it – Star Trek. In honor of the 24th anniversary of Galaxy Quest the Star Trek: Fleet Command video game is introducing a Galaxy Quest story arc with new missions, characters, and in-game awards. Fleet Command publisher Scopely announced that the crossover is launching today, along with a trailer, and that it would bring fans “a captivating blend of humor, nostalgia, and epic space battles.”
Galaxy Quest hit theaters in 1999.
The Star Trek: Fleet Command and Galaxy Quest crossover event introduces the film’s Jason Nesmith, who accidentally sends the NSEA Protector through the space-time continuum.
Star Trek: Fleet Command players will get the opportunity to face the combined forces of Galaxy Quest‘s Sarris and the Klingons.
This ends up putting the crew of the NSEA in the universe of Fleet Command, where they are quickly attacked by Fatu-Krey and Orion vessels. In an effort to get home, they use the Omega 13 device, but instead get sent back in time where they meet USS Enterprise captain James T. Kirk.
Those who participate in the Star Trek: Fleet Command and Galaxy Quest crossover events will get access to quite a few unique ships, missions, and characters. For one, players will get access to the NSEA Protector as a new ship option.
There will also be a host of Galaxy Quest-themed missions where players must face the combined forces of the Sarris and the Klingons. Finally, players will meet new officers like Jason Nesmith, Gwen DeMarco, Laliari, and Alexander Dane.
The Star Trek franchise has always had moments of humor and levity, but this Galaxy Quest crossover shows Trek continues to be unafraid to fully lean into comedy.
The animated series Lower Decks was a breath of fresh air for fans, giving the franchise its first outright comedy show. Fans were then treated to a live-action crossover where several Lower Decks characters ended up in Strange New Worlds, leading to an instant fan-favorite episode.
Paramount is developing a Galaxy Quest TV series for Paramount+.
It’s safe to say that Star Trek should continue to green-light more comedic projects, as fan disappointment over Lower Decks ending is immeasurable. This Galaxy Quest crossover is surely something that fans are going to love, and it’ll be interesting to see how the parody comedy crosses over to the series that largely inspired it.
If this crossover ends up being successful, hopefully, we’ll see more like them in the future, perhaps outside of the video game world.
Galaxy Quest was released in 1999 and has since become an absolute cult classic, especially amongst Star Trek fans. For good reason, as it does parody right by poking fun at the franchises that inspired it while also clearly being a love letter from the creators. There have been quite a few attempts to get a sequel or TV series made since the film came out in 1999, though many have failed.
The most recent announcement in 2023 was that Paramount, home of the Star Trek franchise, was working on a Galaxy Quest series for Paramount+. It remains to be seen if that actually pans out, but until then you can enjoy the Fleet Command crossover now. The game is available for free on iOS, Android, and PC.
