See Nope’s Daniel Kaluuya As Star Trek’s New Geordi La Forge
The pictures show two different takes on Daniel Kaluuya as Star Trek's iconic chief engineer.
Star Trek 4 is coming at some point, and when it does, there are going to be a lot of new characters coming aboard. As we previously reported, the film will feature an appearance from the crew of The Next Generation with new actors playing them. There’s no news on who they’ll be casting as these iconic characters, but we’d like to suggest Daniel Kaluuya as Geordi La Forge.
While it’s not a perfect mockup, these AI-generated images give us an idea of what Kaluuya would look like in this Star Trek role. Interestingly, the AI image generator also created two different iterations of La Forge’s iconic VISOR apparatus that allows him to see. The original La Forge VISOR is a simple band with a gold grill-like pattern, but this version is more of a segmented apparatus with a covering for each eye.
The AI created another version of the VISOR which is simply a curved gold band. If they did indeed bring Geordi La Forge back for Star Trek 4, it would probably be a better call to keep the iconic classic design. There’s really nothing wrong with it, and it’s probably not worth fixing what isn’t broken.
As far as replacing LeVar Burton’s iconic performance as the character in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Daniel Kaluuya seems like the perfect fit. He’s more than proven he has the acting chops to take on any type of character, whether comedic or dramatic. La Forge requires a balanced performance that can balance affable humor and technical know-how, and Kaluuya would undoubtedly be able to pull that off.
It’ll be interesting to see where Paramount takes the Star Trek film franchise after the next movie in the Kelvin timeline. J.J. Abrams kicked off the Kelvin timeline back in 2009, and the movies have been fairly solid, though sometimes divisive in the fan community. If they’re planning on introducing The Next Generation crew as a backdoor for a new reboot film series, it could be the perfect shot in the arm the films need.
In the meantime, Star Trek fans are getting plenty of content on the TV side of things. Though the shows vary in quality and fan approval levels, there are currently five Star Trek shows actively making new episodes and seasons. In 2023 alone, fans will get new episodes of Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Picard, Lower Decks, and Prodigy.
Not only are there a ton of Star Trek shows, but there’s kind of something for everyone. Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Picard are there for the purists who want a more traditional Trek experience. Meanwhile, Lower Decks is an adult animated comedy and Prodigy provides kids with an animated Trek to watch.
There are also two new Star Trek series reportedly in development. One is tentatively titled Section 31 and will follow Michelle Yeoh’s Discovery character. The other is a series that will take place at the Starfleet Academy.
As for Star Trek 4, there’s no news on a release date yet. For now, fans will have to settle for rumors and guesses as to what they might be doing with the film franchise. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated on any new developments.
