Disney Park Water Is Selling For An Absurd Amount Of Money
Water from Disney World attraction Splash Mountain is selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay ahead of the ride's closure.
Visitors to Disney World will soon be waving goodbye to the beloved park attraction Splash Mountain. Some entrepreneurial parkgoers managed to snag themselves a souvenir from the Disney crowdpleaser, according to ComicBook.com, as fans have apparently scooped water from Splash Mountain and are selling it online for a pretty penny.
January 23, 2023, will mark the end of an era as the Disney World water ride Splash Mountain closes for good. The modified log flume opened over 33 years ago on July 13, 1989. Based on Disney’s controversial 1946 film Song of the South, the ride is being replaced with an attraction based on the much less dubious The Princess and The Frog.
Disneyphiles stood in line for hours to be the last people ever to ride Splash Mountain, and several took the opportunity to grab a keepsake while there–the titular splash. Several listings for Splash Mountain water have popped up on eBay in containers ranging from plastic baggies to mason jars. Many of the listings have “Buy It Now” prices north of $50, with several sellers asking for twice that amount.
For those that still want one last ride down Splash Mountain, there is good news: California’s Disneyland Park has not yet shuttered its version of the ride; however, the attraction replacing it is scheduled to open in 2024 at both parks, so it’s only a matter of time.
Disney’s decision to rebrand both of its North American Splash Mountain attractions as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure isn’t a particularly shocking one, as the movie that Splash Mountain was based on has long been out of favor with the general public due to its perceived insensitivity to certain demographics of society. The Princess And The Frog is a much better fit for the current cultural climate, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is sure to appeal to Disney fans from all walks of life.
Diehard Splash Mountain fans shouldn’t despair, however, as the skeleton of the ride, as well as how it operates, will remain the same. Only the look of the ride and its story is changing. Fans will still get the same physical rush of adrenaline riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as they did riding Splash Mountain.
As for those aspiring water merchants, selling water from Splash Mountain may not be the get-rich-quick scheme they were hoping for. As of this writing, only a few of the listings on eBay have sold, and those have all been in the lower price range.
Of course, with the imminent closure of Disneyland’s Splash Mountain looming, the demand for one-of-a-kind keepsakes from the ride could rise. Anyone in the market for genuine water from a famous Disney World attraction may want to strike now while some of the prices are still reasonable. The scarcer the collectible water becomes, the higher the prices are bound to skyrocket.
Just remember, when it comes to collectible water, there’s a bigger danger than inflation: evaporation. Anyone hoping to strike it rich off this water should ensure their containers are screwed tight, and their baggies are sealed. Otherwise, their profits might vanish into thin air.
Disney World’s Splash Mountain closes forever on January 23, 2023, with the one located in Disneyland to follow soon after.
