The Major Villain In Spider-Man 3 Revealed?
The real villain of Spider-Man 3 looks to have been revealed.

The questions about what will happen in Spider-Man 3 just keep getting more interesting! The speculations about the cast list are long, the ideas on the plot are diverse, and there are big questions about how events will play into everything else that could happen during Phase 4. Now, a building question has gotten more interesting. Will Ned Leeds become the Hobgoblin in Spider-Man 3? And does that mean he’ll be playing our main villain?
Currently, Ned Leeds is Peter Parker’s best friend. He’s played by actor Jacob Batalon. So far, Ned Leeds from the movies hasn’t had a lot in common with Ned Leeds in the comic books. In the comics, Ned Leeds is a reporter at the Daily Bugle who is constantly competing with Peter Parker for stories. In the movies, Ned Leeds is Peter Parker’s best friend from high school. He’s the ultimate ally character who is not only one of the first people to learn about his alter ego as Spider-Man, but protects that identity. We’ve gotten to know him in Far From Home and are now expecting to see him in Spider-Man 3. But what will his part be?
For a few years now, Sony has run an Instagram account as Flash Thompson. While this is a small account, it’s been known to post easter eggs and so gets watched by fans in the know, especially those who are waiting for Spider-Man 3 news. This account posted a Story update recently that showed Ned Leeds and Betty Brant. The account ran a story poll asking which of the two were the worst. Over their heads, little symbols were drawn. Betty had a flower and pink horn. Ned Leeds had an orange hat shaped like a triangle. This symbol is very close to what we see in the comics for Hobgoblin.
Again, so far, Ned Leeds has been different from the character we know in the comics. However, in the comics, Ned Leeds becomes Hobgoblin. Could that be happening in Spider-Man 3? And if so, how does it play into all the other things we believe could be happening in that movie?
So far, we have a long cast list for Spider-Man 3. It sounds like we may be seeing Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and possibly Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man as the Multiverse is explored. Without having seen the movie yet, fans are already arguing over what possibilities are most exciting and what should and shouldn’t happen in the movie. The excitement is, understandably, intense as we wait for the December 17th, 2021 premiere.
The theory that Ned Leeds as Hobgoblin could be the main villain for Spider-Man 3 is particularly exciting and different from the rest. While other fan speculation has focused on the growing cast list and possibilities for the Multiverse, Hobgoblin hits a lot closer to home. The turning of Ned Leeds from best friend to Big Bad is sure to be heartbreaking. That sounds promising for a good story.
Since we don’t yet know the plot of Spider-Man 3, anything could happen. It’s possible Ned Leeds becomes Hobgoblin early on in the movie and we spend the entire story focused on that. It’s also possible his transformation happens toward the end. It wouldn’t be out of the question for the transformation to happen slowly over the movie and become finalized in the credits, teasing us for the next big movie. If Ned Leeds is becoming Hobgoblin in the Spidey-verse, it seems likely to happen in Spider-Man 3.
