Spy Thriller Series Everyone Should Watch Gets Season 5 Renewal
Apple TV+ series Slow Horses was just renewed for a fifth season, well ahead of its December 2024 season 4 premiere. The Gary Oldman starring series, which is based on the Mick Herron Slough House novel series will continue to follow the timeline that the books established. Season 5 will be based on the fifth book in the series, London Rules.
Slow Horses
For those of you who aren’t yet in the know, Slow Horses is the less-than-affectionate nickname given to everybody reluctantly pushing paper in the Slough House, and just trying to get through the day without quitting.
Centering on the Slough House, an office that is reserved for MI5 intelligence officers who are on the verge of termination, Slow Horses boasts themes of work-place drudgery, and high-level espionage.
Gary Oldman Leads The Cast
Gary Oldman will be reprising his role as Jackson Lamb, an experienced intelligence officer with an axe to grind, much to the dissatisfaction of his subordinates.
The primary source of tension and quite a bit of comedy comes in the form of Lamb berating his team with the hope that they resign from their positions due to frustration, or extreme boredom.
In addition to Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas will return to reprise her role as Deputy Director General of MI5, who works the second desk as head of operations.
Jack Lowden will also return to the series as River Cartwright, an MI5 agent assigned to work in the slough house after spearheading an ill-fated training exercise.
An Intriguing Premise
What makes Slow Horses such an engaging show is that this very team of past-their-prime intelligence agents, more often than not, save the day despite their less-than-desirable position in the operation.
If you’re familiar with series like Archer, you’ll notice some striking parallels in the form of dark humor as a group of talented yet problematic spies try to navigate through the bureaucratic red tape that ties them to their respective positions.
Highly Rated On Apple TV+
Slow Horses falls into the spy thriller genre and has been one of the most popular shows on Apple TV+ since its April 2022 premiere.
Boasting a 97 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, fans and critics alike have praised season 3 for its tightly coiled plot lines, eccentric sense of humor, and audacious ability to make viewers root for some certifiably loathsome characters who are vehemently opposed to changing their problematic ways.
Slow Horses Season 5
As for Slow Horses’ season 5 plot line, reports indicate that computer expert and former hacktivist, Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung), will be front and center when the rest of the team becomes suspicious of his new girlfriend.
When a series of seemingly unrelated and strange occurrences take place across London, it’s up to the Slow Horses to put the pieces together following “London Rules,” which is a set of guidelines approved by the Bank of England relating to the treatment of distressed borrowers.
Still A Year Out
Though no director has been confirmed for the season 5 run of Slow Horses, the series will continue to be executive produced by Will Smith, who also wrote and developed the series.
Being that we’re still a year out from season 4’s premiere, we’re probably going to have to wait for further developments on the season 5 front.
