Former Disney Star Arrested At Universal Studios
Skai Jackson, the child star who rose to fame playing in the Disney Channel sitcom Jessie was arrested Friday evening on suspicion of spousal battery. The 22-year-old actress was placed under arrest at Universal Studios Hollywood after being believed to be the “primary aggressor” in what police are calling a domestic battery incident. The arrest and pending charges were confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Detained At Universal Studios
People Magazine reports that Skai Jackson was detained by Universal Studios security after they witnessed the alleged incident. After deputies arrived, they watched surveillance footage of the incident provided by the theme park, which they maintain shows Jackson pushing the unnamed victim.
Police further report that there were no weapons of any kind believed to be involved and that there have been no injuries reported by the victim.
Though the alleged victim’s name has not been released, TMZ has reported that the other party involved in the altercation is Skai Jackson’s boyfriend, whom she is expecting a baby with.
No Charges Yet
Skai Jackson was held by authorities at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station for only a few hours on Friday before she was released.
As of this writing, no formal charges have been filed against the former Disney star, but the arrest report has been forwarded to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for their evaluation. Should a charge be filed against Jackson, the offense is legally categorized as a misdemeanor.
If charged, Skai Jackson could face a maximum sentence of a $2,000 fine and six months in jail.
Other Incidents
The alleged domestic battery incident is not the first time that Skai Jackson has been under public scrutiny for her behavior. Last year, the Sheroes star put a MacBook online as a prize for a raffle she was hosting through CashApp. Jackson defended her $5 raffle to online detractors that accused her of scamming her social media followers.
Skai Jackson’s Past
When she was five, Skai Jackson landed a role in the independent film Liberty Kid, which helped her to secure guest starring roles in television series that include Denis Leary’s Rescue Me.
Jackson lent her voice for a role in the Nickelodeon animated show Bubble Guppies in 2009, and soon found herself with walk-on parts in Boardwalk Empire and Royal Pains as well as small parts in the 2011 films Arthur and The Smurfs.
The 2010s And Beyond
Later in 2011, Skai Jackson got her biggest break when she was cast as Zuri Ross in the Disney series Jessie. For four seasons, Jackson held the part and managed to garner a nomination for a NAACP Image Award.
After Jessie was canceled in 2015, the young actress played Zuri in its spinoff series, Bunk’d.
Along with acting, Skai Jackson has established herself as a working author. Jackson penned her first book in 2019, Reach for the Skai: How to Inspire, Empower, and Clapback.
Though Bunk’d was canceled the year before, the then-teenaged actress kept busy with roles in Marvel Rising: Initiation and its subsequent animated entries Chasing Ghosts and Battle of the Bands.
