It looks like the Sinister Six movie is back in development. They would be teaming up a bunch of villains to take down Spider-Man

With the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters continuing to lean the villain route around almost all of their upcoming projects, it makes sense that we would get a team-up of sorts in the future. And that might be the case sooner than later with insider Daniel Richtman having it that the studio is actively developing a Sinister Six movie. If this were true, it would greatly expand their current universe of bad guys and also likely tie in somehow to an upcoming Marvel movie.

While this new Sinister Six news is just a rumor at this point, it does make sense from a logical standpoint that Sony would want to put something like this together. Having the rights over a number of different characters in the Spider-Man universe, they’ve worked in the last few years to put together totally different types of stories around the web slinger’s adversaries.

Members of the original Sinister Six have been involved in previous films and will make appearances in the upcoming Marvel feature Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The original Sinister Six appeared on the comic book pages back in the 1960s and included Doctor Octopus, Electro, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman and Mysterio. It’s unlikely we get that exact grouping for an upcoming movie considering how some of the characters’ storylines have played out already.

That being said, Alfred Molina is reprising the Doctor Octavius role in No Way Home and Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro. It’s also been reported that Michael Keaton will be back as Vulture after his introduction in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This would begin rounding out the Sinister Six.

Meanwhile, Jake Gyllenhaal looked like he met his end as Mysterio at the end of Far From Home and it’s unclear if Thomas Haden Church would reprise his role from Spider-Man 3. Far From Home health somewhat with this character by making him an Elemental as part of the Mysterio holographic package, but if there was someone to be left out, this might be the guy. This appears to be one character they don’t feel all that attached to.

As for the others, Kraven the Hunter is getting a solo movie in the S.P.U.M.C. soon with Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking the lead role. A Sinister Six movie would almost definitely include him in some fashion considering the commitment the studio has already made to the character. Meanwhile, it’s been rumored that Willem Dafoe has been rumored to be coming back as Green Goblin in No Way Home, but that hasn’t been confirmed. That character was an addition to the group in later iterations. Dane DeHaan played the character in the Andrew Garfield universe, but the former has his own villain role going playing The Riddler in The Batman.

In addition to these possibilities, we already know Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius have a sequel and a solo movie respectively coming down the line for Sony. They have also been members of the Sinister Six at times. At this point, there are almost too many choices for how this movie could go. With the way Sony is setting up its universe around Spider-Man antagonists, it almost feels inevitable we will get this group up on the big screen in some fashion sooner than later.
