Simon Pegg Incensed At Shaun Of The Dead Reboot
With 20 years after its theatrical release, Shaun of the Dead is still regarded as one of the best horror comedies ever made. Simon Pegg, who played the lead character Shaun, recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and let the audience know he and Edgar Wright would feel “incensed” about a Shaun of the Dead reboot.
Pegg Doesn’t Have Much Say
With Universal Studios owning the copyright, technically Simon Pegg’s approval of a reboot would not be needed for them to move forward with it. However, he makes it clear that he would want nothing to do with a Shaun of the Dead reboot anyway.
Co-written by Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright, the original Shaun of the Dead received critical acclaim. So much so that, two decades later, it remains one of the most successful British indie films of all time.
With the popularity of reboots on the rise it is no surprise that interviewers were curious if Simon Pegg would entertain a Shaun of the Dead reboot.
What Pegg Had To Say
“If they choose to reboot it, then they can if they want I guess. Although Edgar and I would be incensed.” Pegg tells Lily Ford, an interviewer for The Hollywood Reporter.
Simon Pegg furthers with “Shaun of the Dead is incredibly personal. There’s so much of us in that film. The whole joke of Ed and Shaun not being able to ever come out of The Winchester was real”
Pegg And Wright Are Still A Team
It’s clear neither Simon Pegg nor Edgar Wright are fighting for a Shaun of the Dead reboot. In the interview, Simon Pegg said that to make a reboot they would have to reset everything that the first movie completed. Pegg would rather turn his focus on making something new.
A Shaun of the Dead reboot may never be on the horizon but co-creators Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright still collaborate. While nothing concrete has been established, Pegg said that a project with Wright is a matter of when not if.
Pegg’s Other Work
Though we won’t see Simon Pegg in a Shaun of the Dead reboot, he has been keeping himself plenty busy these days. Season four of Prime’s The Boys is currently rolling out weekly episodes.
Simon Pegg has been a part of the show since season one, playing Hugh Campbell Senior, the father of the main character Hughie played by Jack Quaid.
With his character dying in one of the latest episodes, Simon Pegg will most likely not be returning for the next and final season and his performances will certainly be missed.
In the near future Simon Pegg will be reprising his role as Benji Dunn in the new Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two. It is unclear when exactly it will be released as a $25 million stunt malfunction has delayed production significantly.
While a Shaun of the Dead reboot will never be on Simon Pegg’s docket, fans are elated to see him a part of all of these popular projects.
Shaun Of The Dead
If you have never seen Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead, it is available to rent and/or buy on Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Watch it through and come up with your own conclusion on whether or not a reboot would be possible.
If you finished and said “Yes, totally!” too bad, Simon Pegg has firmly put his foot down and he has made it clear that no force will move him toward a Shaun of the Dead reboot.
