Shazam: Fury of The Gods Trailer Teases A Heavily Requested Return
Shazam: Fury of The God's Japanese trailer contains a quick shot of what appears to be Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.
Despite the brand new slate of upcoming DC Universe projects, Shazam: Fury of The Gods is still the next film in the franchise coming from Warner Bros. Discovery. While the film’s impact on the next era for the superhero universe is unknown at this time, a very quick blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot in the Japanese trailer hints at a rumored fan-favorite appearing in the film. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman can be seen in a very quick flash of the trailer, captured by @TheAnalystOne on Twitter.
Starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel as Shazam/Billy Batson, the 2019 film was a surprise hit at the box office. The tale of a young boy in foster care being given the powers of the the wizard Shazam (Djimon Hounsou), which he then shares with his foster siblings, was a breath of fresh air. Prior DC Universe films had been dark, dour movies without a lot of smiling heroes, including Batman v. Superman and Wonder Woman, but Shazam was a joyous film.
The upcoming sequel expands on the mythological aspect of Shazam’s powers with the Daughters of Atlas played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zeglar, out to regain the powers of the Gods. Prior to the hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the Co-CEOs of the DC Universe, the other hero with powers from Greek myth was going to be included, Wonder Woman. Within weeks of the new bosses being installed everything, including already filmed scenes, was being called into question.
In the Japanese Shazam trailer, thanks to @TheAnalystOne, it’s clear to see Wonder Woman’s arms, with her signature bracelets, holding something that is attracting lightning. Or is it a strange shot of a Daughter of Atlas from up above and she’s throwing out the lightning? That second theory seems unlikely given the bare arms and loose hair not matching the images shown of the film’s villains.
James Gunn has said on Twitter that Gal Gadot wasn’t fired, though he said the same about Henry Cavill, meaning that he did leave the door open for her continued involvement. Shazam, and Zachary Levi’s future, is also up in the air at the moment with the stars future called into question over a Tweet. Nothing in the revealed first wave of movies, which Gunn refers to as “Gods and Monsters,” mentions Wonder Woman directly.
The caveat was applied as one of the upcoming television shows, Paradise Lost, is described by Gunn as a Game of Thrones style show about the beginnings of the Amazon’s home land of Themyscira. Both Shazam and Wonder Woman could, somehow, be involved in such a show given the shared origin of their powers. For now fans will have to go over every single frame of each upcoming trailer for any further clues as to unannounced cameos in this year’s DC Universe films.
Shazam: Fury of The Gods will be out on March 17th, The Flash is out on June 16th, Blue Beetle debus on August 18th, and last is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on December 25th. Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, may appear in any of those films or none of them. Everyone that knows what’s going to happen isn’t talking, leaving us to only speculate, but soon the wait will finally be over.
