The House Party reboot has dropped a trailer, and to everyone’s surprise, it is coming out quite soon. The new R-rated red band trailer has been released, which showcases a familiar formula, but with a bit more star power added. The new reboot movie still centers around two friends who want to make money while throwing a party, but this time, they are doing so in the home of the legendary basketball player, LeBron James.
While the first look for the House Party reboot definitely adds some laughs, we are a bit weirded out that this is the second rebooted franchise that centers around LeBron James. He was also the key figure in the Space Jam reboot, which is kind of odd but does make sense considering the man is quite hilarious. LeBron isn’t the only star that shows up in the trailer, as Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi, Anthony Davis, and Lil’ Wayne are all shown during brief moments in the above trailer.
Oddly enough, the House Party remake is being directed by first-time director Calmatic, who is a famed music video director that took on the hugely famous Lil’ Nas X song, “Old Town Road.” This will be Calmatic’s directorial debut, but we do have to admit that the reboot movie looks quite hilarious already. The script for House Party was also written by the writing duo of Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori, who are Emmy-nominated from their time working on the hit Donald Glover series, Atlanta.
The House Party reboot stars Tosin Cole and Jacob Latimore in the roles of the two friends who are attempting to rewrite their lives by throwing a lavish party in someone else’s house. That someone else happens to be LeBron, who also has a hilarious few moments because of a hologram that is placed in his bedroom. As previously mentioned, LeBron has shown that he can quite hilarious, as he has had starring roles in movies like Trainwreck and Space Jam.
We are not sure how involved LeBron is in the starring aspect of the House Party reboot, but he is also serving as one of the producers of the movie. The reboot was meant to be released in December of 2022 but has since been delayed by a month, which will now see it hit theaters after the new year. We know Hollywood is comprised of many reboots, but we do want to see what this reboot can do to spin the 1990s classic comedy.
The House Party reboot hits theaters on January 12, 2023, after a month delay, but a month is certainly not a long time to wait considering most movies are delayed by six months or longer. House Party was initially released in 1990 and starred the famed hip-hop duo Kid N’ Play, which spawned two additional sequels with the duo, and two others that had new casts. We are not sure how well the reboot will do, but it could be successful in its own right to merit additional sequels as well.
