Fans of The Muppets have been waiting quite a long time to get some new content. Although the franchise released The Muppets Haunted Mansion Halloween Special in October of last year, things have been quiet since. The Muppets Now series was also short-lived, after only providing a six-episode season of short clips. However, it had finally been announced that a reboot or revival of sorts was going to be targeting some of the best characters in the franchise, The Electric Mayhem Band. They would also be receiving their own movie called The Muppets Mayhem. Now, we have been given the first look at the band enjoying the summer sun. You can see the image below:
The Muppets Mayhem is the newest venture covering some of the Mupppets that have certainly needed their own starring chance. Dr. Teeth, Animal, Zoot, Floyd Pepper, Janice, and Lips will work together to record their first album, and the new series is going to document their journey. Lilly Singh has been cast as Nora, the A&R representative that is tasked with getting The Electric Mayhem Band their first album. We are not sure if a tangible album will be released with their songs, but that would be some great marketing if it releases in tandem with the new series. If that happens, we want our cut, Disney. The above image might just be the band enjoying some days off, but who knows, they might also be at the beach during the recording of their first album. They did claim the acoustics are good.
This will be the first musical comedy series since Muppets Now was released back in 2020. The new series was created by Adam F. Goldberg, Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes. Goldberg famously created the hit sitcom, The Goldbergs. Bill Barretta is famous for having voiced Dr. Teeth for many years, and now he is on the producing side of things for this new Muppets venture. Jeff Yorkes has had plenty of writing and editing credits, which has led to him writing the new Muppets Mayhem series.
The Muppets Mayhem marks the 11th series in the long-standing franchise. Although there have been several times in which studios have tried to revive the Muppets, things have not gone as well as hoped. However, The Muppets (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014) were both highly successful films, bringing in nearly $250 million in box office numbers collectively. Both also hold “certified fresh” ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. The hope is this new series will be bringing in another wave of successful Muppet adventures.
The Muppets Mayhem is set to debut sometime in 2023. Well, that is our speculation at least. We would assume since the series has already begun filming, we will see The Electric Mayhem band make their debut in the fall of 2023. Sooner would certainly be better, but we can be patient to see what crazy shenanigans this band gets themselves into. Joining Lilly Singh are Anders Holm, Tahj Mowry, and Saara Chaudry. Hopefully, this new series leads to another highly successful film in the future.
