With the talk show Conan coming to an end this Thursday after a ten-year-long run, host Conan O’Brien has been inviting all his favorite guests who have appeared on the show in the past. On Tuesday’s episode, Conan O’Brien asked his guest for the night, actor-producer Seth Rogen, for some advice on what to do next now that his talk show is coming to a close, and in response, he encouraged the late-night host to smoke weed on national TV.
The talk show Conan debuted on November 8, 2010, on TBS and will be concluding on June 24, 2021. During the episode on June 22, Conan O’Brien sought Rogen’s opinion on what he should do after the show ends because it will be sometime before he jumps to the next project in the pipeline and he has no idea what to with that ample downtime.
Seth Rogen’s advice to Conan O’Brien, who has hosted many talk shows and has been a late-night host for more than 27 years, was that he should try to relax by smoking “a lot of weed for a long time.” O’Brien told Rogen that while he has never judged people who smoke marijuana, which is a “fine herb,” he himself never engages in its use as he enjoys being lucid. Another reason that he opts to not smoke pot is that on the few occasions he has tried it, “nothing really happened.”
Conan O’Brien then turned to his guest once again and questioned what Seth Rogen would recommend he smokes given that he is the owner of the weed company, Houseplant. Rogen, who is known for openly talking about using marijuana and is also a member of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), proceeded to take a neatly rolled joint out of his pocket. He handed it over to O’Brien, who initially thought it was a “birthday candle” when Rogen presented it to him. Rogen advised the talk show host to smoke it only once as it would be enough to do the trick.
And Conan O’Brien did just that: he smoked weed on national TV! After all, when you are about to close shop on your existing job, what is there to fear? So, he took one hit of the joint as advised and passed it back to Seth Rogen, who also smoked it once, before passing it to O’Brien’s co-host Andy Richter. And apparently, this bit in the episode was not pre-planned and Rogen was as stunned as the viewers by the unexpected turn of events.
Seth Rogen’s guest appearance on Conan will be followed by Dana Carvey and Jack Black’s arrival as guests in the final two episodes of the TBS show set to air on June 23rd and 24th. After a brief hiatus, Conan O’Brien, who has hosted shows like Late Night Show with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, will move on to his next project which will be hosting a weekly variety show that will debut on HBO Max later this year.
